Foot problems might be seen in infants quite often. This is partly because of the vulnerability of babies to infections and partly because of the lack of proper care. The greatest problem lies in the fact that your babies are unable to express pain or discomfort that they might be facing. It is the duty of the parents to keep an eye on any kind of unforeseen symptoms in the baby’s feet. Here are five common foot problems babies face.

1. Blisters

Blisters are usually caused by shoes which do not fit well. Any mismatch in shoe-size, width of the shoe floor might cause the formation of blisters. Blisters should never be burst, instead they should be allowed to dry up in open air. It would prevent infection. However, if a blister bursts accidently, antiseptic treatment must be applied. It is highly advisable to select the right infant girl shoes for one’s baby.

2. In growth toenails

This condition develops when the nails grow excessively and pushes into the flesh surrounding the toe. It might result in a sore toe along with reddening and swelling of the area. The only prevention to this problem is to keep cutting the toenails of your baby regularly. Nail clippers must be used to cut the nails straight and the corners of the nails must be clear from the flesh. However, it should also be remembered that the toe-nails should not be cut too short, as it might reveal the delicate part below the toenails.

3. Athlete’s foot

It is one of the most common fungal infection among toddlers. The infection can be acquired by walking barefoot on damp and warm surfaces. It causes rashes all over your baby’s foot. It can be prevented by making your toddler wear cotton socks and leather baby sandals.

4. Veruccas

These are small wart-like developments which are usually found on the soles your baby’s feet. Like athlete’s foot, veruccas are acquired from damp surfaces and prolonged exposure to water. Although the infection disappears on its own, it might be painful to begin with. Toddlers should inculcate the habit of wearing shoes and sandals to prevent such infections. A wide range of baby girl sandals and baby boy shoes are available today that one can choose from.

5. Hand, foot and mouth disease

It is basically a viral infection which affects the baby’s mouth, hands and feet. Blisters and rashes might develop on their feet. This disease is also accompanied by fever. Needless to say, one must consult a physician to tackle the problem. Although over-the-counter medicines are available, it is always advised to follow the instructions of a child specialist.
