One of the first steps that Senior Attorney Linje Rivers of Tallahassee, Florida took towards his career as an attorney was to attend Morehouse College for his four year degree. Morehouse College is a historic college that has educated many of the greatest minds of our time, including the esteemed civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr., who began his studies there in 1944.

Morehouse College has evolved over the years through different names and locations, but it began in the basement. Humbly, it began in 1867, merely 2 years after the end of the Civil War, in the basement of Springfield Baptist Church in Augusta, Georgia. It was founded by Reverend William Jefferson White, who was a cabinet maker, journalist and minister. He was backed by Reverend Richard C. Coulter, a former slave, and Reverend Edmund Turney, who organized the National Theological Institute for Educating Freedmen in Washington, D.C.

Today, the Morehouse College is in Atlanta, Georgia, where it continues to inspire young minds to become great leaders. The list of successful Alumni is very long and loaded with men who have made great contributions to society and the world. In addition to Martin Luther King Jr, Morehouse educated Maynard H. Jackson who became the first African-American mayor of the great city of Atlanta, actor and academy award nominee Samuel L. Jackson, filmmaker Spike Lee. and Edwin C. Moses, Olympic Gold Medalist.

Morehouse College is private, all male, and historically black liberal arts college. They currently have approximately 2200 students enrolled, and typically have a 16:1 faculty to student ratio. The faculty are well educated themselves, all of which have earned tertiary degrees. The goal of the Morehouse College is to produce effective leaders. Since it clearly has already done so in the past, it seems we can expect it to continue to in the future.

This school’s long and impressive history is crowned by the impact of its graduates. Surely anyone who works hard and attends Morehouse College can bring out positive change in the world. Linje Rivers believes that he can make a difference in the world, and he already has. Between his work with the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program, his role as Board Member and Treasurer of the Legal Aid Foundation in Tallahassee, and his work as a Senior Attorney for the Florida Office of Financial Regulation, his future is very bright indeed.
