The Base Camp is at the south face of Mt. Everest that comes in the Sagarmatha Region of Nepal. A village called Lukla serves as the gateway to the high peak wonders of the world. One can reach Lukla by air from Kathmandu as it has good number of daily flights. It takes about 40 minutes of flying time to reach Lukla from Kathmandu. The flying experience is also considered as a mini adventure, due to the tiny table top run ways and scenic flight on Himalayas. After Lukla one has to trek only to reach any of the places in the Sagarmatha Region, unless of course you plan to hire a Helicopter for yourself. The other possible option to reach Lukla is to take a bus ride to Jiri and from there on trek to Lukla, which will take about 6 days to reach Lukla. The most preferred option is to reach by air from Kathmandu.

The region's entry from Lukla it set at an altitude level of 2800 meters and goes up to 5643 meters around Everest Base Camp. The maximum altitude gain is 5643 meters. Needless to say, it is a challenging task considering the altitude gain and one has to proceed with gradual and staged altitude gain on daily basis and not rush. Proceeding without proper rest may lead to altitude sickness.

The trekking season can be divided into two parts, Mid March to June and then September to early December. These two seasons are the most preferred among the trekkers. In March to June, it is relatively less cold and also you get to see more wildflowers etc on the lower altitude regions. The other season gets little colder and towards the end of December it is extreme cold, however the skies are much clear in peak winter.

There are people, who love to experience extreme cold and try to go in January; however the weather will be very harsh in this time. The months of July and August receive rain falls in lower altitude and snows in the higher altitude.

However, it is always a cold desert as the Everest is in the Khmbu Ice Fall and the surrounding is completely glacier.

Also, the region is very remote and is extremely beautiful all over. There are some remarkably beautiful monasteries such as the one in Tengboche. You get to experience the ancient Tibetan culture and the scenic high altitude Sherpa villages.
