Becoming A Registered BER Assessor

The present concern of renewable energy and energy efficiency is becoming a main concern to all. Houses and offices must have BER rating and BER Certificates to pass the quality standard.BER Assesors are professionals who passed the training course program for skilled individuals. They must pass the SEAI Domestic BER Examination in order to register as BER Assessor.

Steps to take to be a registered BER Assessor

1. The applicant aside from undergoing special training programs, must pass the SEAI BER Examination.2. They are required to have insurance policies and must complete a registration form.3. Pre-qualifications

Applicants must posses the National Certificate Level 6 Advanced of Higher Certificate in the construction studies. The department, SEAI can accept the UK Domestic Energy Assessor (DEA) course and the UK Home Inspectors Course in the absence of the said national certificate.

Courses

A BER course must be completed based on the BER Training Course Provider. The applicant must have at least 70% mark.

Examination

The SEAI have regular publications on the examinations to update the current methods, software, guides, bulletins and code of practice.

Email address

BER Assessors must have a valid email address to SEAI. The team as well as the National Administration System sends communication in the submitted email address.

Insurance

Professionals must have different insurances that are required for registration:

$6,500,000 minimum insurance for Public/Product Liability$1,300,00 minimum insurance for Professional liability for each claim$13,000,000 limit of employers liability insurance

Certificate of Tax insurance

This can be obtained by contacting the revenue department.

Renewals

The registration is usually valid for one year. A month before the expiration, the professional must receive a notice from the SEAI. The fully accomplished form together with the insurance and other requirements must be complied.

BER Assessors must also know and advise their client of the Part L compliance for cost effective energy conservation that fits best with their lifestyles and needs. Every residential and office should pass the government compliance requirement. As professional, BER Assessors must always give their best suggestion so that all units must be constructed or reconstructed under the present law of energy conservation. Suggestions must not create confusion and complication, especially on the owners and the residents.
