Bisola Akinyemi - History of Human Resources

Bisola Akinyemi is a dedicated professional that currently works in the Human Resources Department of a real estate company, as well as a property management company. While HR has become an integral and important part of the everyday functionality of business, it was not always that way. While business and the exchange of goods has been around for a considerable time, HR is a rather new concept in terms of business policy.

The Human Resources field itself would grow from a simple idea thought up by two men during the Industrial Revolution. Robert Owen and Charles Baddage were among the first businessmen to understand that the true success of any business or organization hinged on people first and foremost. These two believed that happy, healthy, and content employees meant higher morale, and more productive work. They believed that a business or organization was no better than the weakest employee.

From the ideas set down by Robert Owen and Charles Baddage, HR would emerge as a cultivated field in the early 20th century. A man by the name of Frederick Winslow Taylor would help bring that about through what he called, "scientific management", in which he tried to improve the efficiency of manufacturing laborers. His studies led to a closer examination of worker wellbeing, as it seemed to relate directly to job efficiency and efficacy.

Professionals like Bisola Akinyemi would not exist today if HR had not developed and grown into the field we know today. C S Myers, an Englishman would further advance the fledgling HR field by developing the National Institute of Industrial Psychology. That institute would be the launching pad for a human relations movement that would focus heavily on ways to make a more productive worker that didn’t relate to financial compensation or working conditions.

More work and research from such renowned names as Hawthorne, Max Weber, Frederick Herzberg, and David McClelland helped to solidify the importance of laborer psychology, and ultimately led to the development of the Human Resources field as a whole.

Bisola Akinyemi has been working in the Human Resources field for many years. He has gained much experience over the course of his career, hoping to utilize that experience to one day open his own Human Resources staffing company. Mr. Akinyemi’s dedication to the field has helped it to grow, and soon he may have an even bigger impact on the field, one that may one day be compared to others throughout the discipline’s history.
