Volunteering abroad to save and care for animals is a great way to experience a one of a kind adventure while making a difference, and Australia is a good place to get started. Whether you are volunteering locally or from abroad, there are different organisations where you can sign up to complete a project. However, only one non-profit organisation focuses on recruiting volunteers to assist in the rehabilitation, rescue, release, and care of animals in Australia, and that is Oceans 2 Earth. This Australia-based non-profit organisation works exclusively with animal welfare focused conservation volunteer projects which aim to care and rehabilitate animals and protect precious habitat. In addition, they collaborate with other organisations globally to bring together projects for environmental and animal lovers who want to travel, contribute, and experience in a more meaningful way.

What Makes Oceans 2 Earth Different?

Volunteering with Oceans 2 Earth in Australia is a unique and special kind of experience in itself. What sets them apart from other animal volunteer groups and non-profit organisations is that they encourage relationships with on the ground animal welfare organisations that seek to rehabilitate and release various wildlife into their natural habitat wherever possible.

Their ethical standards do not support the formalised breeding of animals unless it is to release the animals back into the environment and to improve or maintain the biodiverse fauna of the region. Moreover, Oceans 2 Earth and its partners do not support animal exploitation as a form of entertainment or in tourism, nor do they endorse or support commercial animal ventures and the use of animals as beasts of burden.

What You Can Expect

The contribution you will make to the animals and the environment will depend on the country you visit, the length of stay and the project's requirements. An experience can be as quick as one week or as long as six months. Oceans 2 Earth will make the necessary arrangements for you so that you can immerse yourself in a whole new world. When volunteering, you will gain some valuable and unique experiences with a wide range of animals including koalas, elephants, dolphins, turtles, eagles, lions and crocodiles. It may even be your chance to meet a sun bear, dingo, wallaby, flying fox or an otter, and care for them too.

When you volunteer abroad with Oceans 2 Earth, you are given the unique opportunity to save animals and do your part in making their lives better. This Australian organisation specialises in Australian projects, but you have the option to volunteer in other projects in Asia, South America, and Africa, too. Projects provide many different opportunities to care for the environment and animals. Animal rehabilitation, marine conservation, wildlife rehabilitation and care or research, veterinary assistance and education programs are some of the tasks and programs you can experience when you volunteer abroad.
