So you think you’re all set to head off on your trip to Australia, you’ve got all your documents, you’ve weighed your luggage, you’ve even gone to Care Free Parking and got the cheapest airport parking options available for Manchester airport parking. What you are probably already vastly aware of but are choosing to ignore, is the agonizingly long amount of time you are going to spend in an aluminium tube, with two wings full of combustible fuel, hurdling towards your destination, a mile above the ground, with only a slide and a gas mask for protection. In this guide we are going to share some tips and tricks to help you, get through the long haul flight.

Before you book think about….

The time you choose to depart from the airport on your long haul flight is of the upmost importance. I am a night owl, so I travel at night and sleep my first day there. However this isn’t the same for everyone so adjust it for you.

If you can afford it, upgrade to either premium economy or business class. These options are more expensive, but you get more room and freedom, so if you are 6’7’’ look at it as an investment in the future of your knee caps.

Some people choose to avoid it, others choose a flight for this reason. Stopovers. They are to me a blessing, it’s a chance to get some fresh air, stretch my legs and get away from whatever arguing couple I’ve been sat next to (every time).

If you love a window seat or hate them, then you are going to want to pick your own seat. It does cost extra, but that extra bit of money goes towards you being comfortable in the long run.

What are you going to do with the car? Head over to Care Free Parking, the cheapest airport parking specialists in the UK and get a quote to find out how much it will cost you to keep your car in Manchester airport parking.

When getting ready think about…

Being comfortable, seriously even if you’re an a-list celebrity, no one cares whether its Primark or Gucci, when it comes to the plane. Stock up on thin cottons, breathable pants and cardigans.

Sleep or no sleep? I have never taken a travel pillow with me anywhere, I am a no sleeper, but for the sleepers out there buy a quality one, and maybe some nytol if planes make it difficult for you to sleep.

Hydration is key, drink plenty of water keeping in mind airplane toilets, and bring at least some chapstick for your lips, as plane cabins are usually very drying, making moisturiser (below 100ml) very high on my priorities.

Include all prescriptions and medications in your hand held luggage, as this would be stupid to pack in a bag that you are not seeing again for a long time. Be sure to include some simple paracetamol as cabin air can give some people migraines.

When you’re at the airport think about….

Are you hungry? Manchester Airport and many other UK airports have places after security where you can get food. Avoid fatty foods or foods with high carbohydrate contents, honestly who wants to be sat on a plane bloated.

Did you forget anything? Quickly look in your carry on and check, when you are flight side, buy whatever you forgot such as water, moisturiser, travel pillow etc

How much time you have? Use the airports free wifi to prep for your flight, read about your destination, take selfies for your friends to be jealous of, take pictures of maps for future reference.

Take any medication you want to take effect on the plane now before you bored that way it will have time to kick in.

When you’re on the plane remember that…

Carry on luggage goes in the overhead compartment. This is not only for safety but for comfort, take out the essentials you will need then put the bag away.

When the seat belt light is off, and it’s not busy or during trolley service go for a little walk in the cabin, stretch out otherwise you will end up with very painful aches in your joints.

Stay sober, by all means enjoy a glass of wine, but don’t overdo it alcohol is dehydrating and so are fizzy drinks, try and stay with water and juices.

That is Care Free Parking’s guide on how to get through a long haul flight after you’ve gotten the cheapest airport parking price available at Manchester airport parking.
