Does your child feel wary of attending an overnight summer camp? This may be due to the anxiousness of sleeping away from his/her family. Here’s a list of things you may do to make your child prepped up for the camping event.

For many kids, the thought of attending their first overnight camp gives them the jitters. This is primarily because it is the first time that they would be sleeping away from their family. To add to the anxiety, is a new bed and unfamiliar noises. Though a Fremont summer camp takes extreme care of providing kids with utmost comfortable and amiable environment, there are a few things which kids may carry along to the camp to ensure that they have a sound sleep. Here’s a list of things which guardians may consider before their kids are off to their first experience of participating in a summer camp:

1. Their favorite Teddy

Studies reveal that when kids are surrounded by comfortable items, it elicits a soothing sensation and easily puts them to sleep, even in an unfamiliar place. It is a good idea to pack some stuff of comfort. This may range from their favorite Teddy, to any other stuffed animal, or even their pillows. Older kids may keep a photo of their family or maybe a special note from parents or sibling.

2. Pack for the night time weather

Apart from assessing the weather forecast for the camp destination, one should ensure to have a look at the nighttime forecast too. This is important because kids are used to a particular temperature during sleep time. At the camp, this temperature may be higher or lower, particularly if they are staying in a tent. Hence, it is imperative to pack accordingly. To be on the safer side, it is advisable to pack several pairs of pajamas as well as socks.

3. Preparation for noise

A child may be habituated to sleep in a noiseless environment. However, during camps, kids are often put to sleep in groups. These group-sleeping arrangements may cause a slight discomfort. Further, there may also be some unfamiliar outdoor noises, particularly if it’s an outdoor trip. It’s a good idea to keep an iPod if your child prefers to listen to music while falling asleep.

4. Mental Preparation

Before the trip, parents should mentally prepare the kids for what they might experience at the event. Guardians may also make arrangements for enabling their kids to have a discussion with regular campers so that they can get a fair idea of the happenings of the event. Such preparation goes a long way in making the kid feel relaxed and geared up for the upcoming event.

Every year, Riverdales After School organizes a Fremont summer camp. This institution takes special care of children at such events and ensures that they delve in an exciting and fun-filled experience.
