In every walk of life, women have been instrumental in success. From civilian roles to highly demanding positions in the armed forces of our country, women have delivered the best in every aspect. But, many women officers in the law and enforcement sectors have to do with whatever they get their hands on. For the lack of funds or whatever reason Female Ballistic Protection has been largely missing. In missions where women soldiers or police officers take on combative roles they need to be equipped with the right kind of Female Ballistic Protection. The women warriors deserve proper combat gear and ballistic protection and thankfully a lot of the new research is being directed to make things safer for women.

Is there any difference in protection gear design for men and women soldiers?

Yes, female ballistic protection jackets and armours are different from what men use. There are three things that armour designers have to bear in mind when designing protective suits:

  • Maximum Coverage: The coverage has to be as extensive as possible and the more it is the better. To cover as much area as possible, designers use body moulds to create a maximum average coverage area.
  • Proper Fit: The armour has to be a snug fit to ensure that it does not move around the body during action. Loose fitting armour is never ideal.
  • Comfort: This is also one of the key considerations for designing a good ballistic protection gear.

When these three things are taken into consideration, it becomes clear that both cases have to be dealt with individually. Combat jackets for men and women need to be designed separately for best results.

Is there is a reason for the lack of enough Female Ballistic Protection products?

There is no doubt that the female members of our armed forces are as remarkable as their male counterparts, but very little was done for them specifically on the battle field. Traditionally, the Indian woman has been celebrated for their amazing willpower and the tenacity to make sacrifices for things they believe in. That has made them ideal homemakers and the entire Indian society rests on matriarchal shoulders. A deviation in their traditional role from homemaker to law enforcer is only recent. Ballistic protection makers have had very little time to meet special needs of women warriors. That may be one reason; the second probable reason that pops in mind is the reluctance of think tanks in placing women in active action situations. With fewer women on the front line, the bulk of the attention of ballistic protection makers has been on male soldiers who have seen more action than females. This is changing fast and female ballistic protection gears are being specially designed for women to keep them safe at the face of dangers in a battlefield or in civic law and order urban scenarios.
