There are some major differences between the two. Today only I have read some nice content on shayari, so I would definitely like to share that as well.

Firstly, Shayari is an Urdu word which has some kind of poetic feel to it. It is being used and written from from ages as there is no significant data that how old it is or where it originally originated.

Whereas Poem is a verbal and literary composition which is written both in verse and prose. It is written with an intense beauty using one or more literary techniques including rhyme, rhythm, meter, alliteration, metaphor and many more.

Secondly, Shayari is mostly done in Urdu and Hindi, whereas Poem can be written in any language. You can write a poem in Hindi, English, Urdu, Japanese, etc

Thirdly, the different types of Shayari are Poem (written in Hindi and Urdu), Ghazal, Rubai, etc

But the different types of Poems are:

Acrostic, Ballade, Blank Verse, Cinquain, Diamante, Echo Verse, Epic, Epigram, Free Verse, Haiku, Horatian Ode, Irregular Ode, Kennings, Kyrielle, Limerick, Lyric, Ode, Ottava Rima, Pindraic Ode, Renga, Rondeau, Senryu, Shakespearean Sonnet, Share Poem, Sonnet, Tanka, Tetractys, Triolet, Tyburn

As Poem is written globally so it eventually developed many styles and types. Where as Shayari mostly remained in Asian region (although it is also flourishing nowadays).

According to Meriam Webster Dictionary, Poem is "a piece of writing that usually has figurative language and that is written in separate lines that often have a repeated rhythm and sometimes rhyme".

Shayari on the other hand, as Wikipedia quotes, "In, poetry or Shaayaree, essentially comprises, or Sher. The plural for Sher is Ashaar. The form is a collection of mulitiple ashaar - each of which should convey a complete thought without any reference to other shayari of the same ghazal. In fact, though belonging to the same ghazal, the different ashaar therein can have completely different meaning and tone relative to one another."

This means that Poem refers to all kinds of poetry in every language whereas Shayari is a form of poem written in Urdu.Poem is "a bit of composing that more often than not has non-literal dialect and that is composed in particular lines that frequently have a rehashed mood and here and there rhyme".

Shayari then again, aplains, "In Urdu, verse or Shaayaree, basically embodies couplet, or Sher. The plural for Sher is Ashaar. The structure ghazal is an accumulation of mulitiple ashaar - each of which ought to pass on a complete thought with no reference to other shayari of the same ghazal. Actually, however fitting in with the same ghazal, the diverse ashaar in that can have totally distinctive significance and tone in respect to each other."

This implies that Poem alludes to a wide range of verse in each dialect though Shayari is a type of sonnet written in Urdu.
