Extra sleeping space can come in handy in any home, but if your home is not large enough for a dedicated guest room that is only used once in a while, you may need to look to sofabeds for a practical solution. Sofa beds allow you to use the seating area every day, but you have the flexibility of a spare bed as and when it is needed. However, not all sofabeds are the same, so here is your guide to choosing the perfect model for your home.

Consider the Room Where it Will be Used:

If your room relaxed or formal? A futon style sofa bed can look perfectly at home in a relaxed style of room, but it will look very out of place if you have a more formal ambiance. In this case, you may be better suited to an adjustable sofa that can complement your chairs and other furniture.

Consider How it Will Be Used:

Is your sofa bed going to be for the occasional guest or everyday use? An infrequent overnight guest is not really going to mind if the bed element of the sofa bed is quite low to the ground or lacking a little support. However, if it will be used more frequently or by guests who are older or have back problems, you will need to provide more support. Remember that if the sofa bed is to be used as a regular sofa, it will need to be practical for your family life. Consider wipe clean or easy maintenance fabrics such as leather, so you won’t need to worry about sticky fingers or a little pet mess.

Assess the Size:

The days of only having the option of a two seater sofa bed have long gone. These days you can buy a wide range of configurations, so you can tailor your new furniture to the dimensions of your room. If you are planning to use an adjustable sofa in your main living area, you may prefer a larger model with a chaise longue. This can still be folded out into a full size bed but provides ample seating space for a whole family. Be sure to measure the dimensions of your room carefully and take into account other items of furniture such as chairs or lamp tables that will also need to fit into the space.

Go On a Viewing:

While you can buy furniture online, if you want to be sure that your new sofa is both a comfortable seating area and bed, you should view it for yourself. Sit down and check for back support and ask to open up the showroom model into a bed. This will show you how easy it is to convert and you can check the level of support offered.
