2 Liquor Dessert Recipes

Most people would say alcohol in the Philippines is cheap, and it is. It’s everywhere and anybody can get a bottle of their favorite brandy and rum from their local sari-sari store, their favorite wines and whiskies from supermarkets, and they can even have ice cold beer delivered straight to their home!

However, not everyone wants to get wasted every time they want to have a taste of alcohol. Some just want a splash of something to revive their senses and tickle their taste buds. For those of you who want that tickle on your taste buds, here are some desserts you can totally sneak a shot of your favorite alcohol in.

1. Boozy Brownies

If you’re the lazy kind, you can always go to the nearest supermarket and grab a box of brownies, preheat your oven, follow the instructions on the box, add that splash of alcohol (which can be a choice of a few shots of Irish Cream, rum, or bourbon), line a tray with wax paper, pour the batter in, and pop them in the oven.

Or if you want to do it from scratch, you will need:

  • A cup or two sticks of unsalted butter
  • 3 eggs
  • cup of unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 cups of sugar (you can put in less if you want it less sweet)
  • 1 ½ of all-purpose flour
  • tablespoon of vanilla extract
  • teaspoon of salt
  • 3 ounces of semi-sweet chocolate
  • And of course, a third of a cup of rum

Pre-heat your oven to 176C or 350F. Melt together your butter and chocolate on low heat, stirring until smooth and remove from the heat. When it’s a little cooled down, beat in your cocoa powder, salt, sugar, and vanilla, and three eggs one at a time. Then, stir in your flour and rum, and when it’s thoroughly combined, pour into pan, and bake for about 25-30 minutes until your toothpick comes out clean.

And if you want more booze on top of that, make some caramel by bringing sugar and water to a boil for about eight minutes. Don’t stir and remove from the heat when you see the beautiful amber color. Add the cream, and then the rum, and let cool. Then drizzle (you know you want to pour it instead) over your brownies. Yum!

2. Tiramisu

Most people would assume Tiramisu’s kick is just coffee, but it’s actually alcohol!

For this recipe, you’ll need:

  • A pack of Italian lady fingers or chocolate graham crackers
  • A cup of cream cheese or mascarpone cheese
  • Half cup of powdered sugar
  • A cup of chilled all-purpose cream or whipping cream
  • A cup of strong, black coffee
  • A shot or two (or more) of brandy or rum
  • A couple of tablespoons of cocoa powder

Put a shot or two of brandy or rum into your cup of coffee. Take your Italian lady fingers or chocolate graham crackers, properly soak them in the coffee and alcohol mixture, and lay them out in your pan and set them aside. In a bowl, beat together the cream cheese (or mascarpone) and powdered sugar with a shot of brandy and rum until it’s light and fluffy, and in another bowl, whip the chilled all-purpose cream until it’s doubled in size, and fold into the cream cheese mixture. Pour this cheese mixture over the soaked graham crackers. Dip more crackers into the coffee and lay them over the cream. Alternate between the cream and the coffee soaked crackers. Top with a cheese layer, and chill for a few hours or overnight. When ready and set, sift some cocoa powder on top and serve.

All you need to do now is a throw a party to share these boozy desserts with! Enjoy!
