Every baker, dreams to create a magnificent rose which also happens to the most popular of all the icing flowers. While it can seem as a hard task to accomplish, you can make roses that look like real with patience and a little practice.

Making roses using icing is easy and these can adorn your cakes or cup cakes and make them look special. If you wish to learn the professional way of making more such icing flowers, enroll in cake baking classes and learn from the experts.

Let us have a look at the step by step procedure to make an icing rose.

Step 1: Start by making a base for the rose. Place the waxed paper above the flower and take the needed tip to squeeze out the icing for the base. You need to keep the tip buried as the icing is being squeezed out. Raise the tip slowly by decreasing the pressure.

Step 2: Stop the pressure, pull the tip up and lift it away. You will now have a rose base that is more than 1 ½ times higher than the opening of rose tip.

Step 3: Start by making the center bud. Hold the flower nail that has the base in one hand and the piping bag with the rose tip in another hand. Place the bag at an angle of 45 degrees to the flat surface. The rose tip’s wide end should be placed so that it touches the cone of the icing base just below the midpoint. Also, make sure that the narrow end of the rose tip points up and that the angle is a little inward.

Step 4: This is the most important steps of all. You now need to squeeze the bag, then move the rose tip and at the same time rotate the nail. By this, you will form an icing ribbon. Now turn the flower nail in the counterclockwise so that icing ribbon comes around so as to overlap the mound’s top. Then bring it back to the point where you started.

Step 5: Now move the rose tip straight up and straight down and you will finish the flower’s bud. Now, make 3 petals of the top row.

Step 6: You need to turn the flower nail and the up and down movement of the rose tip will create a petal which is half circle shaped. Make sure that the wide end of the tip is touching the base of the rose. This attaches the petal. Now, move the rose tip up and down towards the middle of the mound and this way you make the first petal. Start making the second petal and the third following a similar movement. You need to rotate the flower nail 1/3 turn for each and every petal you are making.

Step 7: Now make the middle row with 5 petals. You need to rotate the flower nail 1/5 turn for each of these petals.

Step 8: The last petal you are making needs to overlap the starting point of the first petal.

Step 9: Next make a bottom row with 7 petals. The wide end of the rose tip needs to touch the center of the petal from the middle row. Now, squeeze the piping bag, rotate the nail and move the tip up and down to make the first petal in the bottom row. Make 7 more petals and rotate the flower nail by 1/7 turn for every petal.

Step 10: Now, just slip the waxed paper and remove the finished rose from the nail.
