For anyone who loves sailing, a cruise along the Dalmatian Coast of Croatia would have to be at the top of the bucket list. Even for those who've never considered the idea before, a trip aboard the luxury vessel MS Agape Rose is enough to turn a die-hard landlubber into a dedicated sailor. I've helped many of our clients plan holidays in Croatia and, for those with a sense of adventure, I often recommend this particular cruise.

Laidback Luxury: It's All Smooth Sailing!

For some people the idea of sailing might sound a little like hard work – but there's none of that on the Agape Rose. This brand new vessel has everything you could want in terms of luxury facilities and, with capacity for just 38 guests, you're treated like a VIP from the moment you set foot on board.

Every cabin has its own ensuite and air-conditioning for your comfort and many of my clients have reported the best night's sleep they've ever had, dozing off to the gentle sound of the waves. The vessel feels very spacious and you've got a choice of places to relax, including the spacious sun deck, alfresco lounge and stylish salon-restaurant.

The Itinerary: Trogir to Dubrovnik

The MV Agape Rose cruises one of the most enjoyable sea-going itineraries I've had the pleasure of experiencing and one that I think adds so much value to holidays in Croatia. Hvar, Brac, Mljet and Dubrovnik are the major ports of call.

Hvar

I admit to having a very soft spot for Hvar; the ever-present scent of lavender on the air adds to the gentle ambience of the landscape and there are plenty of opportunities to purchase some of the many lavender themed souvenirs. The ancient settlement of Hvar Town provides interest for history lovers and, as it's a favourite of the European celebrity jet set, there are plenty of upmarket bars, great shopping and fine dining.

Brac

A stop off at Brac affords the opportunity to make the most of the famous Zlatni Rat Beach, which is best-known for its shape-shifting properties, depending on the tides and winds. It's your choice whether you just go for a lazy dip or take a stroll along any of the island's walking trails for some fabulous views – Vidova Gora is my favourite. I can also highly recommend sampling one (or three) of the excellent local wines.

Mljet

The landscape of Mljet is truly unique and this is actually my favourite part of the itinerary. The island is protected as a National Park and taking a few hours to explore the wooded pathways that run around two massive saltwater lakes is an invigorating and uplifting experience. Disembarking at Mljet to immerse in its natural beauty is a lovely contrast to the rest of the cruise.

Dubrovnik

I've been entranced by the charms of the ancient city of Dubrovnik for more than 30 years, and it still manages to surprise me. As if the art, culture and medieval history aren't enough, its breathtaking location sets it apart as truly one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Cruising in beneath the magnificent walls against a backdrop of the ocean is an experience I'll never forget. Not that I'm biased…

While no time frame is ever long enough in Dubrovnik, at the very least I recommend my clients take a ride on the cable car, a walk around the ramparts and enjoy a traditional meal in a restaurant tucked away in the Old Town.

For holidays in Croatia with that little point of difference, I wholeheartedly recommend a cruise on-board the wonderful MV Agape Rose - from Trogir to Dubrovnik, or in the reverse direction from Dubrovnik to Trogir. Whatever suits you better – it's your holiday!
