Morzine for Thrillseekers Who Have ‘Done it All’

So you’ve para-skied, ice-climbed, maybe even tried hurtling downhill on a skeleton sled – but don’t be fooled into thinking that you’ve had all the thrills there are to be had in the French Alps!

In the resort of Morzine, part of the Portes du Soleil skiing area, they’ve found new ways to thrill a generation of adrenaline junkies with a range of action-packed activities.

Go For a Yooner Ride

Okay, it may sound like something I’ve made up, but a ‘yooner’ is a real thing. It’s somewhere between a ski and a sledge with a plastic seat you can sit on, mounted above a short ski. There’s a handle for steering, which allows you to curve and turn like on skis, and there’s even a break – which is lucky because you can pick up quite a lot of speed.

There are a couple of places close to the hotels in Morzine which offer Yooner rental, including LCS and Evolution 2. So get out there and challenge your friends to a yooner race on your next ski holiday!

Human Bowling

What could be more fun than strapping yourself and a friend into a giant zorb ball and hurtling down a steep lane carved out of snow? Well, perhaps strapping yourself into a zorb and hurtling down a snowy lane trying to hit as many inflatable pins as you can at the bottom!

This is human bowling and it’s almost as much fun to watch as to take part in. Head to the slopes of Avoriaz and give it a go!

Avoscooting

This is snow scootering or snowmobile-riding, Avoriaz-style. Forget climbing on the back and letting a professional pilot take you off piste through the mountains: here, you’re in charge.

Climb on board for an evening ride through the forest, with a couple of guides on hand just to stop you getting lost. With the mountains to yourself, this is high octane evening entertainment.

Night sledging

As the sun goes down and most of the day’s skiers and boarders are heading back to their hotels in Morzine, you could be taking the Pleney ski lift up the dark mountainside and preparing for the thrill of a lifetime.

Armed only with a sledge and a head torch, you take the blue Piste B back down into town at speeds which can reach more than 30mph.
