Barbados is many people’s dream destination with its white sand beaches and clear blue seas and, with a bit of advanced planning by me and my team at Can Be Done, it can also be the perfect place for travellers who find getting around a bit of a challenge.

Here are three hotels which we’ve checked out personally and offer as part of our specially tailored packages for clients who are less mobile or disabled. Holidays at these hotels are ideal for those who still enjoy travelling the world and don’t want to compromise on luxury.

Accra Beach Hotel & Spa

This hotel is all about beach holiday fun without any compromises in terms of accessibility. Located on the tranquil waters of the south coast, the Accra Beach Hotel has everything you would expect from a major resort: a pool with a bar and submerged bar stools for cocktails in the sun, three restaurants, live jazz and free evening entertainment.

Our clients have told us that they particularly enjoyed the onsite spa with great treatments for the tired, aching muscles that those with mobility issues can suffer from.

Accessibility features include:

Adapted rooms with wheel-in showers, commode shower chairs, hoists and grab railsScooters and wheelchair rental Ramped pool accessAccessible excursions

Radisson Aquatica Resort

The stylish four-star Radisson Aquatica Resort at Needham Point, with its private pier and exclusive access to the beach at Carlisle Bay, is a great choice for those from the abled-bodied to the disabled. Holidays here are great for access to the sea as the resort is on the beach itself, with only a short walk to the water for those who find longer walks a challenge.

Previous Can Be Done clients have told us that the concierge is great at arranging accessible excursions and there’s even a car hire service if you’d like to see more of the island but want to avoid too much walking.

Hilton Barbados Resort

For the ultimate five-star luxury, we at Can Be Done recommend the Hilton Barbados Resort. The advantage here is that – with its beachfront location, four restaurants, a bar, beautiful garden and spa with ocean views – there really is no need to venture beyond the hotel grounds if you have difficulty moving around or using standard transportation.

As you would expect from the Hilton brand, the hotel is fully accessible with a range of rooms for guests with mobility issues. Previous clients have told us that the staff here are very friendly and always ready to help those with mobility issues.

With such a great range of hotels in Barbados for those with mobility impairments, why not let us arrange the perfect luxury Caribbean holiday tailored specifically to your needs? With over 30 years’ experience and above-average accessibility standards, you can relax knowing you’re in the safe hands of Can Be Done’s dedicated team.

Philip Scott is the owner and founder of Can be Done, a fully licensed UK tour operator specialising in disabled holidays across the world for individuals and groups who are travelling with a handicap. With over 31 years’ experience organising long and short breaks for disabled travellers, Philip has built a reputation for helping his clients select hotels and accommodation that offer high standards of accessibility to ensure that those with special needs can experience truly relaxing and carefree holidays.
