If you are tired of having to play the role of a plumber every time your drains clog and back up, you’re not alone. Instead of you having to resort to using a plunger, snake or chemical, you should consider using safer and healthier alternatives to resolve your problem. Check out these convenient ways you can keep your drains clean without using harsh chemicals.

Use Pantry Items

In order for you to use any of the items in your pantry to clear your drains, you need to make sure there is little to no water standing water. If there is, you can easily remove it by using a bowl or bucket to bail it out. Once you’ve managed to remove as much water as possible from the affected sink or tub, add a cup of baking soda, hot white vinegar and salt. Let them sit for 10 to 15 minutes before rinsing them away. This mixture is completely natural and safe for you to use to clean those annoying grease blockages too. If you don’t have any of those ingredients in your pantry, you can always use an organic drain cleaner to do the job.

Maybe you have some baking soda, lemons or lemon juice and salt hanging around in your pantry. You can use those to clean and clear your drains. All you need is equal parts salt and baking soda. Toss the mixture in the drain and follow it up with a lot of lemon juice and piping hot water. Not only will your drains be clean, but they will smell fresh too.

Use Household Items

If you happen to have a really bad clog and you don’t feel that your pantry ingredients are going to work, then the next best thing for you to try is a wire hanger. Take your hanger and straighten it out. It doesn’t have to be completely straight, but just enough so you can push it down your drain. Slightly curve one end so that it looks like a small hook. Push it down into your drain as far as it will go. You are basically fishing in your drain to remove the blockage.

Anytime you encounter a little resistance, don’t continue to push or you could make the problem worse. Instead, you should be pulling your wire hanger up every few inches to the gunk and hair that are inside. After you’ve removed as much as you can, turn on the hot water to let it run for a few moments. Follow up by pouring some organic drain cleaner in the drain.

Of course, it goes without saying that the best way for you to keep the drains in your home clean and clog-free is to not put anything in them that doesn’t belong. This may hard if you have young children living in your home. Even if it is not possible for you to keep them clean and clear all of the time, having a good brand of organic drain cleaner and natural drain declogger on hand will keep you from being inconvenienced.
