How Motivated Employees Can Make A Business Successful

When there is a feeling of tiredness, when the heart gets overwhelmed and wants to give up, when the feeling of having enough of something, when someone is going through the lowest point in their life, how they pick themselves up is through motivation. According to the oxford dictionary, motivation is a "reason or reasons for acting or behaving in a particular way". Therefore, motivation helps in shaping the spirit with which anyone performs any task. When we talk about the business sector and about the organizations that perform business, we know that the employees are a very important part of it and if the employees are hard working, then the organization can strive towards greatness. Motivation is a key factor that makes people work for what they want. Motivated employees have a potential to help make the business successful. A healthy and motivated human resource has the following advantages:

1. Effectiveness and efficiency: The art of getting things done on time is called effectiveness and the art of doing things with optimum utilization of resources is known as efficiency. In an organization, this is achieved when the employees are motivated enough to work their level best. When the workforce is motivated in an organization, they will complete their tasks assigned to them on time with optimum utilization of resources.

2. Healthy work environment: When the employees are motivated, it helps in creating a healthy environment in the workplace. When they are motivated, then they feel unbiased and let go all the issues they have with the organization because they tend focus on their task assigned to them. This is a sign of a healthy work environment where there is harmony and no discord among the employees.

  1. Good reputation in the market: When there are motivated employees, the reputation of the organization will get better in the marketplace. This helps in increasing the possibility of recruiting more good and skilled employees as good ones want to join organizations that have a very good reputation.
  2. Team spirit: Motivation helps a lot in building team spirit. The organization gives certain tasks, which are to be performed in teams by the employees. If the employees are motivated, there will be more harmony while they work in teams, as well as individually. This helps in building team spirit and increases coordination of teams.
  3. Productivity: Motivated employees tend to be more productive than the ones who have comparatively low motivation. A motivated workforce tends to give out more returns to the organization when compared to employees who have lesser motivation. Productivity and motivation go hand in hand, which means when there is more motivation, there will be more returns, or productivity
  4. Morale: Positively motivated workforce has value that is more moral and they work in favor for the betterment of the society. This is not only advantageous to the society, but for the organization as well as their reputation in the society will increase.
  5. Personal development: Motivated employees work hard and they face personal development. It improves the identity, develops talent and potentials, enhances the quality of life, and contributes to the realization of dreams and aspirations.
  6. Organizational development: A total of all personal development ultimately leads to the development of the organization as a whole. It means the quality of the organizations performance increases.
  7. Profitability: Focused and motivated employees help in giving more financial gain to the organization as they make optimum utilization of the resources provided to them to perform tasks assigned to them.
  8. Employee retention: Motivated human resource tends to stay in the organization for a longer period as when they are motivated, they are happy with their work and would not want to resign.

Since the performance of the employees determines the growth and development of the organization, it is very important for the management, especially the human resource manager of the organization to make sure that there is optimum utilization of the skill, abilities and knowledge of the workforce existing there. To do this, the employees should be motivated enough to feel like they have to give their level best to meet the objectives set by the management. This can only be done if they have enough motivation in them. Therefore, the human resource manager needs to come up with policies to motivate the workforce so that they perform well and take the organization towards success. Various ways are through which the human resource manager can motivate the workforce to work harder.

  1. Employee appreciation programs: Employee appreciation program means a setup through which the employees are appreciated for their hard work, which has a positive effect in the organization.
  2. Profit sharing: apart from the salary or wages earned by the employees, from the profit earned by the organization, a certain amount can be given to the hard working employees which will motivate them to work harder for better return, and the ones who do not work that hard, to start with the same.
  3. Employee Stock Option Plan (ESOP): In many organizations, ESOP is introduced where the employees are provided shares of the company in lower price as compared to the price at which it is offered in the market. This is a very effective way to trigger their motivation.
  4. Incentives, bonus: Returns to the employees other than their normal wages and salaries for special occasions is known as incentives and bonuses. This will motivate the workforce to work harder.
  5. Freedom: Employees also have a certain need and want for freedom in the organization. Freedom refers to freedom of speech, freedom to deny any decisions imposed on them, freedom to seek for leaves, etc. if these needs and wants are fulfilled, they will feel more connected to the organization and possibly feel motivated.
  6. Retirement benefits: If the employees are given extra benefits for even after they are done working in the organization because of their old age, or contract, or any other valid reason, then they are likely to feel more motivated to give their level best.
  7. Safety and security: The workforce, if feel secure in the work environment, they will mostly feel freer to work towards getting to the common objectives.
  8. Sufficient training and development: when the human resource is trained well, then they will likely want to apply their knowledge into practical use.
  9. Career planning: the human resource manager should show them a clear career path so that they know where they stand in the organization. This will boost up their motivation and will make them want to travel the path more effectively.
  10. Challenging job: The job of the workforce should be moderately challenging so that they feel motivated to face more challenges that comes towards them.
