Rock Climbing Tips: Here’s How To Ace It!

We talked to some of favorite rock climbing gurus and came up with the following rock climbing guide for amateurs:

1. Climb When You Can

There is no way of getting around the sheer amount of practice required to become a good climber.

Of course, start off at the gym and conquer that climbing wall. Your coach can guide you to other bigger, better climbing walls in your city as well. Ace them all. And once you are thoroughly confident in your climbing skills, climb some more!

2. Take a Climbing Course

Check out your local gyms; chances are someone somewhere will be willing to teach you the basics of rock climbing. Make sure your instructor has real world experience and can teach you how to belay safely and give you pointers on other climbing necessities.

3. Find a Mentor

Once you start climbing indoors, check your local rock climbing community. Get yourself a mentor who is more than just an hourly instructor. Once you find them, do your best to benefit from their knowledge and expertise.

4. Don’t Be Afraid of Challenging Yourself

Set goals, and accomplish them. Motivate yourself. Conquer the fear of falling, and of pushing yourself physically and mentally.

Rock climbing is an extreme sport in every sense of the word. And once you ace it, the rewards will be phenomenal.

5. Track Your Progress And Keep Yourself Accountable

Consider joining an online community of like minded individuals, all of whom are involved in the sport of rock climbing.

Tap on their resources for information and guidance. Get them to guide you regarding which climbing gear to buy, or help you get psyched about the next climb. Also keep a climbing journal to note down your goals and when you accomplish them.

At TryClimbing.com, we promise to help you find the best possible climbing gear money can buy. Check out our latest climbing shoes buying guide right here!
