Xarelto is a blood thinner drug that was approved in 2011 by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. One of the drug maker made $2 billion in 2016, as a result of selling the drug. However, patients who have suffered serious side effects as a result of using the drug have complained that the manufacturers only focus on making profits rather than patient safety.

Xarelto is marketed as a drug that can mitigate the risk of blood clots, stroke, deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism. In fact, it has saved millions of patients from fatal blood clots by preventing its formation. Xarelto medication was used as an alternative to an older blood thinner drug called Warfarin. Warfarin medication has been used as a blood clot treatment for decades. Walfarin comes with the risk of internal bleeding, but comes with an antidote which can be used to stop the bleeding.

Xarelto could be more dangerous to patients compared to other blood thinners since it could lead to excessive and irreversible internal bleeding that could be life threatening. As a result, thousands of patients have filed lawsuits against the drug makers claiming they suffered severe blood loss and near fatal cases as a result of using the drug. Patients who sued the drug makers complained that doctors and patients were not warned in advance that the drug could result in internal bleeding. And that they were not informed another drug was capable of reducing blood clots without the fatal risk of excessive loss of blood. Claimants have also alleged that the drug lacking an antidote is a defect on the part of manufacturers, and that it does not benefit them like older blood thinners like Warfarin.

The lawyers who represented the patients claimed that the two drug makers continued to make and sell the drug without warning the public about the dangers associated with its use. Hence the two pharmaceutical giants may have misinformed the public about the drug safety, and inadequately warned about the risk of internal bleeding. Even though manufacturers have sold the drug since 2011, many people have only discovered about its fatal side effects recently. Patients reported suffering side effects like stroke, excessive bleeding, retinal hemorrhage, abdominal hemorrhage, adrenal bleeding and death.

The lawsuits against the drug manufacturers started when the FDA rejected the approval of Xarelto to treat patients with Acute Coronary Syndrome (ACS). The FDA cited in their ruling that there was no possibility that the drug could be used to prevent heart attack and stroke. As a result, doctors have become cautious about prescribing Xarelto drug if there is an alternative drug that can be used instead. Since the drug has not been recalled by the FDA, it is still being prescribed by doctors to patients despite its fatal side effects.

If you have suffered severe health risk as a result of using the drug you should file a Xarelto lawsuit. First, consult with a qualified attorney to see if you have any Xarelto claims that can be used to sue the drug makers. If you have any claims, they will let you know about your options moving forward.
