When painting a room, you need to take the time to complete a comprehensive surface prep and paint in a methodical, orderly way. These are the keys to getting professional looking outcomes when doing any paint job. Forgetting the prep stage is probably the biggest blunder DIYers make when painting. http://www.blueheartsolutions.com/how-to-increase-the-value-of-your-house-by-painting-tips-from-perfect-painting-remodeling/

So take the time and do the job properly. Perfect Painting & Remodeling will be able to assist if you prefer to hire the professionals.

The Preparation Stage

  1. Firstly, carefully examine all walls for imperfections before priming or painting. Fill and patch up any holes or flaws using spackling and a putty knife – allow to dry. Smooth using sponge. Spackling is available at Perfect Painting & Remodeling.
  2. Before priming or painting, you must also be sure that the walls are clean and dust-free. Use a clean cloth to wipe down the walls.
  3. Painter’s tape can be used to help you attain clean, professional-looking results. Its key purpose is to shield locations you don't want to paint. Perfect Painting & Remodeling will have the perfect brand and expertise to advise you on this.
  4. Before starting any priming or painting, you want to protect your floors or furniture with a drop cloth. There are a few types you can choose from. These are available at Perfect Painting & Remodeling.
  5. If you're working in an average or small size room, you should remove all the furniture.
  6. The last stage of your prep is cutting in the walls with primer. Cutting in is about outlining the walls in the room. Utilize a paintbrush to draw 2-3 inch bands all around the ends of the walls where they encounter ceiling, baseboards, other walls, entrances and window structures. Those 2-3 inch areas around the room let you roll the rest of the wall without trying to roll paint into those constricted spaces.

Painting Your Walls

  1. Before painting, priming is a vital part of any painting job. Primers are specially made to adhere to various kinds of surfaces and take your first coat of paint. Perfect Painting & Remodeling can assist in determining the best option for you.
  2. The initial step to painting your walls is to use a decent quality paintbrush and cut in the room once more, this time with your paint. If painter’s tape is left on after priming, you can just paint over it. If you have taken off your painter’s tape, you'll need to reapply prior to starting.
  3. A foolproof way of achieving clean and even paint edges is to avoid loading the brush down with too much paint; the excess has to go somewhere and will probably end up where it doesn't belong.
  4. You should fully cover your roller with paint, but not get it drenched. Before refilling your roller and going on to the next portion, roll over the section you just painted in an even and continuous stroke from top to bottom and back and forth.
  5. The last phase is to get rid of your painter’s tape. Now you have two choices: you can do this prior to the paint drying entirely, if you're worried about the tape sticking in the paint, or merely wait for the paint to dry. Once done, tightly cover the remaining paint in cans, carefully and fully clean paintbrushes and rollers, and properly discard the used painter’s tape. A second coat may be needed. Just be sure to allow the first coat time to dry completely, usually between two and four hours.
