What if it were possible to make your home appear to be more expensive without actually spending a lot of money? Well, the truth is, it’s entirely possible. The following budget friendly home decor tricks can help you accomplish just that.

Paint or wallpaper an accent wall

You’ve probably heard that you don’t want to use vibrant or dark colors to paint a room and you don’t want to go with a wallpaper pattern that’s got too bold a pattern. That’s because they make a space more confining and it will make your home harder to sell one day since bold patterns and colors aren’t as universally accepted as something lighter and more neutral. While this is generally good advice, you can get away with painting or wallpapering an accent wall that’s less conservative. Not only is it a great way to spice up a room but it’s a lot cheaper than having to paint or wallpaper the entire room.

New throws and pillows

Over time, decorative throws and pillows begin to look faded. Pillows lose their fluffiness, throws begin to look threadbare and both lose their bright color and start to look more dull. Swapping them out is very inexpensive. You can usually find throws and pillows for just a few dollars. It’s a great way to mix up colors, textures, and patterns in a space without having to spend much money.

Peel and stick countertops and flooring

Natural stone countertops like granite or marble are in as are hardwood floors but these tend to be expensive materials even before you factor in the cost of cutting them all to size and getting them installed by a professional contractor. Peel and stick vinyl can be made to look like granite, marble, slate, hardwood, or tile and you can install it yourself. Simply measure out what you’ll need, clean the surface you will be applying the vinyl to, cut pieces to size with an exacto knife, and carefully apply making sure to avoid air bubbles.

New hardware

It costs very little to go through your home replacing all of the knobs and pulls on your cabinets and drawers.Replacing something generic with something a little more bling can go a surprisingly long way in improving the look of your home.

Hang some mirrors

Most people don’t think to place mirrors anywhere but in bathrooms and closets or perhaps on the dresser in the master bedroom. But high quality mirrors with a decorative frame can be hung anywhere. It’s often cheaper than purchasing art but it can serve a similar function. Not only does it look nice but it can create the illusion of more space making a smaller room appear larger and more opened up than it actually is.

Install baseboard radiator covers

You can transform old, rusted baseboard radiators in minutes by installing baseboard radiator covers over them. Simply measure out how many feet of covers you need and place your order. When they arrive they fit right over your

radiators and make them look shiny and new again.
