India needs more non-profit organisations that selflessly help children who are deprived of education. Akshaya Patra is one such NGO working for the same cause by providing mid-day meals in many Government and Government-aided schools in Odisha and other states. The mid-day meals in Odisha are not only encouraging children to attend classes but also improving their health by ensuring proper nutrition.

This non-profit organisation for children targets undernourishment and classroom hunger. They operate from four kitchens in Odisha – Bhubaneshwar, Puri, Nayagarh and Rourkela and are serving 1,80,140 children. They have been changing the way children perceive education and encouraging them to dream of a bright future. To enable the non-profit organisation to reach more children in Odisha, you can sponsor a child by creating a fundraising campaign or through other CSR opportunities.

1. Variety of tasty and healthy food

Children who otherwise find it difficult to get a meal every day feel privileged to have tasty and nutritious mid-day meals in school. They get to eat various combinations of cereals, pulses, seasonal vegetables, nuts, fruits, vegetables and milk products on different weekdays. This makes their day at school joyful. If each one of us sponsors just one child for a year (for just Rs 950), hundreds of children can get healthy mid-day meals in Odisha.

2. Helping them achieve their dreams

Every child dreams of achieving success in his life and serving his parents and society. But what happens when these children are expected to earn a meal for themselves and their family? The dreams of becoming a doctor, a pilot, a policeman, a teacher, an astronaut etc. are shattered. We can extend a helping hand toward these children.

The beneficiaries such as Rajesh Kumardas have not only got a hope of realising their dreams but are also likely to become learned citizens of future India. We can help in bringing this impact in Odisha through the non-profit organisation.

3. A hope of better future

The children who are deprived of ideal living conditions are often very passionate about changing the scenario. They are usually ready to work hard and earn money and fame. Through this programme, the non-profit organisation Akshaya Patra is succeeding in giving the children the desired opportunity to design their own future in Odisha. Children are now more passionate about coming to school, learning, and working hard to be able to ensure better living conditions for themselves as well as their families in future. It is this hope of having a better future given by the mid-day meals which is encouraging the children to come to school.

Apart from non-profit organisations working towards the cause every single day, if general public takes up responsibility of helping children achieve their dream, we will be able to foresee see a bright future for the nation. Contribute towards the change. Sponsor a child today!
