Concrete safety barriers have many other functions other than re-routing vehicles to decrease the possibility of accidents. There are special barriers for site safety which requires perimeter protection, parking lot barriers and even for barriers for oilfields and nuclear power plant security available in the market. Other than this, only a handful of people realize that they are used by the military for securing populations, organizing stability and eradicating terrorist attacks.

Concrete security barriers also provide freedom to soldiers so that they can move around in urban environments. Finding a suitable place to live in was very difficult for them. With the use of concrete barriers, other than taking refuge in any abandoned factories, government buildings, schools etc. they can transform any open ground into a walled compound within few days. They come in varying sizes from 3 to over10 ft, and are effective in safeguarding the soldiers against bombs and infantry attacks. The other reasons why the concrete barriers are preferred by the U.S army are given here,

  • They are shockingly easier to install. They don’t need to waste time and money in excavating a site to drill post supports and removing them at the end of their use.
  • Concrete barriers are simple to maintain and repair. They are capable of enduring extreme weather conditions and routine wear and tear when compared to other type of barricades. Thus, they are the most cost-effective option for long-term purposes. This doesn’t mean they are not suitable for short-term use.
  • They are semi-permanent and are easy to remove when the need arises. When there is peace, such protective measures are not required anymore. They can also be transported from one base to another without much effort.
  • They are highly useful in the countries like Iraq and Afghanistan that are under the threat of terrorism. Concrete barriers if place rightly can be used to avoid any land borne attacks.
  • They are not easily damaged. Even the barriers that have suffered head-on collisions are found on the road with minimal damage.
  • They are used to wall-off troubled neighborhoods to avoid violence and save the local population.
  • They are considerably strong. They cannot be moved that easily without the use of equipments specially designed for the purpose. Thus, they are great for site safety as no one can attack or trespass the area without alerting the soldiers residing inside.

This shows that concrete barriers are the ideal option for security and safety regardless of the location.
