Top 10 Extras to Pack for Your Ski Trip
Posted: Mar 08, 2014
Bulky jackets, extra boots, and numerous scarves means that packing for ski trips can seem extremely daunting. You will almost certainly only have limited luggage room, and may want to consider paying the extra for taking additional weight. Below are ten extra items that you should never leave of your skiing trip luggage.
1 – Heat Packs
Skiing is cold. It’s obvious, but a surprisingly under estimated fact. Your feet will get cold, so will your hands, and probably your nose and ears. Heat packs are inexpensive, work quickly, and are especially suitable if you’re taking children, who are prone to incredible levels of complaining.
2 – Lots Of Extra Socks
You’ve packed two or three pairs of socks per day, and you feel confident that you’ve got enough. You haven’t. Pack some more and then root out another couple of pairs and pack them as well. You will change socks several times a day, and if any get wet you will make additional changes too.
3 – Mobile Phone And Charger
You may not want to damage your £600 iPhone, but a smartphone or even a feature phone could prove invaluable. Ensure you can use your phone where you’re taking it, and pack your charger. The cold will drain your charge quicker, so consider taking a spare battery if you have one.
4 – Skiing App
If you do take a smartphone, rather than a cheaper feature phone, download one of the many skiing apps that are available. These can be used for everything from finding the best runs to checking in, reporting your location, and even discovering any avalanche warnings.
5 – Camera
You will see some of the most incredible sights and scenery of your life when skiing, and you will experience those moments where you really wish you had your camera. Buy a cheap, decent quality digital camera with charger and take it with you.
6 – First Aid Kit And Painkillers
These shouldn’t be considered an extra, but an essential. Make sure the first aid kit and permitted painkillers are the first items in your luggage, but do make sure that you’re allowed to take the items you pack into the country you’re visiting.
7 – Energy Bars And Snacks
Skiing is extremely physical, and it will take it out of you, even if you are experienced and ski regularly. Pack some energy bars and other energy snacks to help get you through the day.
8 – Lip Balm And Sun Cream
Don’t let the fact that you are in sub-zero temperatures fool you. If the sun is beating down, it is also hitting the snow, magnifying, and beating back up again. Pack and use lip balm and sun cream.
9 – Extra Layers
Layering is the best way to keep dry and warm without having to double your size in clothing. Pack a few extra layers, especially those made from thin, synthetic materials. You will appreciate it, especially if you feel the cold at night.
10 – Apres Ski Clothing
Obviously, the skiing is the best part of a skiing holiday, but don’t overlook the enjoyment to be had in après ski bars, restaurants, and the local towns and bars. Pack clothing that you can wear out, so that you don’t have to eat and drink in your ski boots.
