Flat radiators make a refreshing change from the old-fashioned corrugated radiators. Some people assume that the difference is merely one of fashion. That flat radiators represent a change in taste, rather than providing any benefits or advantages.

This couldn’t be further from the truth, and during the course of this article, we are going to explore six reasons why flat panels can be better than other types of radiator.

1. They suit small spaces.

Because they’re flat, rather than corrugated, flat panel radiators take up less space than their corrugated counterparts do. Not only that, but each panel is smaller, meaning that with a triple panel radiator, the flat one would take up far less room than the corrugated one, but each would produce a similar amount of heat.

2. They’re sleek and fashionable.

Maybe it’s because they’re new, or maybe it’s because they are inherently more attractive, whatever the reason, flat radiators do have a sleekness to them that the corrugated ones do not. The latter are run-of-the-mill and boring…at least that’s the impression they give off – they don’t catch your eye when you walk into a room.

3. They work well at low temperatures.

The biggest advantage that flat radiators have over corrugated radiators is that they work better at low temperatures. This means that they are more efficient when you put your central heating system on low, which in turn means that they are cheaper to run.

At higher temperatures, the corrugated ones tend to take the lead in terms of efficiency. However, in the UK, we have a relatively mild climate, so the difference is marginal.

Even so, panel radiators are much more efficient in spring and autumn than the corrugated radiators are.

4. They take less time than traditional radiators do to heat the room.

With flat radiators, there is less surface area than with corrugated radiators. This means that the former take less time to heat the room. If you are looking for a radiator that is highly responsive, then the flat panels are definitely an option for you to consider.

5. They’re relatively cheap.

Flat panels tend to cost less to buy than the corrugated radiators are. This is because they use less metal and the manufacturing process is much shorter – the panel doesn’t need to be bent into shape as is necessary for a corrugated radiator. This means that there is one less process involved in their manufacturing, and they are therefore cheaper.

6. They can double as mirrors.

Finally, some flat panel radiators double as mirrors. They are great for use in a bathroom or bedroom. It means that you take up less wall space as you use the same bit of wall for the mirror and the radiator (given that it’s the same unit that doubles as both). That means more space for artwork or storage space. It’s one of the main reasons that people buy flat panels for their bathrooms.
