Applying makeup is easy, but applying makeup in a way that flatters you might take some practice. You’ve got to find the right shade of foundation and concealer, apply makeup with the right strokes and right brush, then take the right makeup steps to apply your bronzer or highlighter and choose the right colour for your blush and lipstick too! If you’ve been looking up the steps on how to apply makeup or trying ways to make applying makeup simpler, here is a guide…

Before you start applying makeup, ensure that you have everything in place—this includes your foundation—powder or liquid, blush, highlighter and bronzer, eye liner, kajal and lipstick.

Step 1

Build your base by prepping your face with a CC cream. This will ensure your makeup stays on longer and you have an even skin tone.

Step 2

Next, being by applying concealer to cover any dark circles and blemishes you might spot. Ensure that you apply the concealer in a triangle under your eye as opposed to in a semi-circle. Ideally, apply it with the help of a concealer brush.

Step 3

Then apply your foundation. Take a small amount on a foundation brush and blend it all over your face and neck.

Step 4

To ensure that you makeup application stays longer, set it using a compact powder of your choice. When it comes to foundation, concealer and powder, choose a shade that is closest to your skin tone. Many people make the mistake of choosing a shade they desire to be i.e. fairer than their actual skin-tone.

Step 5

Next, focus on your eyes and finish your eye makeup.

Define your eyebrows using a brow pencil and fill in any gaps.

Then choose a shadow based on the event—morning or evening—and apply it on your lids using a brush.

In one sweep, line your upper lids with a liner and use a kajal to line your lower waterline. Finish off by applying mascara to lengthen and define your lashes.

Step 6

Add a little colour on the apples of your cheeks with a blush of your choice. For those with darker skin tones, coral looks great while those with fairer skin can choose something a little more rosy.

Step 7

If you’re headed for an evening or night out, add some highlighter to draw attention to the high points of your face such as your cheek bones, the ridge of your nose and so on.

Once your face makeup is done, choose the right hairdo for the occasion.
