While you may be thinking that Barcelona is a bit touristy for your taste, don’t be too quick to write it off. In fact, it’s the perfect destination for family holidays, especially if you’re looking to release your inner dare devil and try out some thrilling activities. So that you’ll know where to look, I’ve compiled a list of Barcelona’s best adrenaline-fuelled activities.

Go Rowing at the Parc de la Ciutadella

You can spend a great day out at the Parc de la Ciutedella. The open green space is home to shaded paths and large lawns, and is perfect for sharing a family picnic. If that sounds a little too tame, there’s also a huge lake on which you can go rowing. It is cheaper to stick as a quartet and get a single boat, but if you are up for a little family challenge, why not rent two 2-person boats? It’s fun to pair up and race each other!

Try Skateboarding at MACBA

You might not believe it, but Barcelona has one of the biggest skateboarding scenes in Europe. If you head over to Raval and make your way to the square opposite the MACBA, you will find an array of streets filled with skaters who are putting their skills to the test. During your Barcelona Airport transfer, you may even be able to ask your driver to tell you more about this legendary area.

If you decide to visit, your kids will love chatting to experienced boarders, getting tips on perfecting flips and turns and seeing how many gnarly tricks they can master themselves. If you don’t have gear, the skater shop Free, located on Carrer de les Ramelleres, sells everything you’ll need.

Climb at Montjuïc

Whether you’ve climbed before or not, you’ll find that there is no thrill equal to letting loose at Climbat. It’s a brilliant centre, boasting 800m2 of ascendable surface. Learn the basics as a family, and then let your kids grow in confidence as they attempt some of the harder runs. For adrenaline junkies, there could be nothing better!

Windsurf at Base Nàutica

For the ultimate proof of strength and stamina, why not take on the Mediterranean waters by storm and learn how to windsurf? Whether you’re looking for a short, one-hour introduction to this fun-filled activity or would like to become a pro over the course of a few days, there’s plenty of amazing classes on offer at Base Nàutica, Barcelona’s own water sports centre. Water you waiting for?!

How to Get There

The flight from London to Spain couldn’t be easier: simply hop on one of Ryanair’s, easyJet’s or British Airway’s two-hour flights. Thanks to Shuttle Direct’s Barcelona Airport transfer, your trip from the airport to the city will be completely hassle-free as well. You can book a shared, group or private transfer via our transfer service’s user-friendly website before your trip. Upon your arrival in Barcelona, your driver will meet you outside of the terminal and then drive you directly to your hotel in just half an hour. The sooner you and the family can start enjoying your adrenaline-fuelled adventures, the better!
