Morzine – Enjoying the Best of Both Worlds

The fabulous chalets in Morzine, in the French Alps, are a popular choice with discerning skiers. But what sets this wonderful region apart from so many others?

There’s skiing and skiing

It might sound odd, but skiers don’t all like skiing to the same extent. Some love spending every hour of every day of their holiday on the slopes, with nothing being allowed to get in the way of that. This resort will cater for those people brilliantly.

For example, it has: 36 slopes at red or black level; 28 slopes at green or blue; plenty of nursery slopes and training facilities; 322 snow cannons; an altitude of 1000 metres and a good snow record. So, assuming you’re going in the typical winter season, if you’re that can’t-get-too-much-snow type, you’ll be more than happy with what you find here.

The diverse-interest skier

Then there is the other type of skier - one who enjoys their sport but not to the exclusion of everything else. This sort of individual also likes doing other things, such as perhaps snowboarding, cross-country, saunas, fitness centres and so on – including, of course, their après-ski.

Here, skiing is normally seen as an integral part of a winter-sports holiday. If that sounds like you, then rest easy - renting one of the great chalets in Morzine will be a wonderful option.

That’s because this resort also offers a lively (though not excessive) après-ski scene and also a great range of non-skiing activities including many of the above mentioned things. For example, it has a premier division ice hockey team as well as a new indoor swimming pool complete with steam baths. You can also engage in things such as paragliding, ice diving or snow-shoeing– in other words, a change from the ski slopes!

What makes a great winter snow holiday?

For some purists, a skiing holiday is sacrilege unless it’s dedicated to the sport at every single opportunity. However, what’s probably important to you is that you enjoy your precious holiday, and if you like variety then this location is definitely for you.

It’s easily reached from airports like Geneva or Chambery (the cheap flight situation might vary from one destination airport to another), and you can also get there by a combination of train and road from several main Swiss or French cities. It’s also probably fair to say that Morzine, over the years, has created a family-friendly culture. This means, unlike some ski resorts elsewhere, you’re not likely to need to take out a second mortgage to have a great quality holiday there.

The overarching attraction of this delightful destination is that it sets out to provide something for almost everybody, and, on the whole, it does that very well. It’s a great broad-spectrum resort that’s likely to appeal to the serious winter sportsperson and those just looking for some fun in the snow. So, if you’re thinking about renting one of those chocolate-box pretty chalets in Morzine, you might just be on the right track.
