The number of tourists visiting the island is highly increasing and there is a high demand for all sorts of accommodation including home stays. This resulted some of the old mansions being converted into luxurious Colombo boutique hotels. When we are talking about home stay accommodation we are talking about 2 very extremes. In one end of the spectrum we have the most luxurious accommodation for high end travelers. Most of the time these accommodation facilities are family homes with lots of history that have been tastefully transformed into boutique hotels. Each property has witnessed the different times and has a unique story to tell. And in the other end of the spectrum you can find the guest houses with basic but ample facilities to get by that mainly cater for students and the travelers with a limited budget.

Sri Lanka became the hot holiday destination to explore when the civil war came to an end. Immediately after the war the statistics showed a clear growth in the tourism industry. But the biggest challenge was the lack of tourism infrastructure to cater the soaring numbers of inbound tourists. There were already some Colombo hotels that have been functioning with a flow of regular tourists even during the war times. But after the war when tourism was picking up the types of tourists who visit Sri Lanka also varied and catering to respective clients became a challenge. And also it created the opportunity for different types of accommodations to pick up. Since the boom of tourism there are tourists who wanted to visit Colombo and explore Colombo. In addition to the business tourists there are so many other holiday makers who want to experience and explore the vibrant life of Colombo.

There are so many boutique hotels Colombo wide and another advantage of staying at one of the hotels is that you are helping to create job opportunities as well. Since these hotels are operated in a homely environment one does not have to be a hotel school qualified employee to get a job. Most of the staff members hired at those hotels is from that area who are known to the owner. It is a great chance for those staff to earn a living from tourist industry without the expensive hotel school training or the fancy qualifications.
