Travel is something that all of us love. We all enjoy visiting new places and mixing into the culture and beauty of that place. But being ill or being in a physically unhealthy state brings us problems, one after the other. And if you are on serious treatment like dialysis, you think it’s better to avoid travel and concentrate on how well you can carry on with your treatment and possibly recover to the maximum extent possible, as fast as possible, without creating any hazard to yourself, especially your health. Here, we get to talk about dialysis. Even the thought of travelling, may induce stress in your mind, if you are on such serious treatment like dialysis, and you start thinking of how, all your medication will go on properly.

But Traveling while on dialysis is not a big issue if you have the correct planning and good support from your medical practitioner and your PD staff. If you have such a backing, then travelling while on dialysis might not end up to be a great cause of concern to you and your family. What is all important here is that you have a detailed discussion about your tour with your doctor, nurse, PD staff and your family? Also detailed knowledge of the place you are planning to visit will help a lot.

Some of the important points to be remembered if you are travelling with dialysis are:-

  • Discuss with your supplier about your tour plan and also requirements during the entire holiday.
  • Start planning earlier, this will give to time to check and recheck the arrangements you have made
  • Don’t changed your previous planned plan after the tour or travel
  • Always stay connected to your doctor
  • Pack your supplies in a bag, and carry it with you always.
  • Avoid packing in suitcases
  • Have information about the nearest hospitals and dialysis units of the place you are visiting.

Your travel will be more fun, if you have a close friend or a family member with you. There is this added advantage of them knowing about your condition and in case of any emergency, he or she could help you.

Traveling while on dialysis is completely fine and rejuvenating if you are well planned and prepared. Do not, at any cost compromise with your treatment, as this can be disturbing and hazardous. All the required measures, if taken properly can give you a wonderful experience, without the worries of your dialysis.
