No matter what the field of activity, trade shows are always among the most important times of the year for business owners. They represent perhaps the best opportunity for businesses to put their name out there, canvas the potential customer base, acquire new clients and even network within their own field. Competitors may become allies, business figures may boom, and a company may go from zero to hero, all as the result of a successful trade show.

Just as important for any industry are specialist award shows. Winning an industry prize is undoubtedly one of the greatest honours any company can hope for, as these prizes tend to give their winners an indelible seal of quality in the general public's eye. If something is recognised by its peers, it stands to reason it is a good standard, and therefore worth buying.

The Tomorrow Awards

Both the factors detailed above might explain why such a large number of creative agencies operating in the three-dimensional printing field vie for the Tomorrow Awards' 3D trophy each year. This is arguably the most important industry prize for the field in question, and winning it can open a huge amount of doors, especially for young designers and start-up companies trying to break into an already slightly overcrowded field.

Held annually, at the end of February and the beginning of March, professional members of the printing industry judge the Tomorrow Awards, who also take it upon themselves to shortlist what they believe to be the best works within the field that year. This shortlist is then submitted for judging, by both the professional panel and online voters at the awards' web page. The ultimate winner will receive the coveted final prize, which – in keeping with the overall theme and industry the awards refer to – consists of a 3D trophy!

Entrants to these awards are not restricted to the three-dimensional printing industry, however. Any creative endeavour in the field of creative design has a shot at taking home the 3D trophy in question, and make a name for itself within the industry. Previous winners of this prize have included projects ranging from Skype to Facebook and Youtube, as well as game apps and the famous Google Glass project, among other exciting new technological and graphic developments.

It should be clear, then, why being awarded one of the prestigious Tomorrow Awards, alongside their symbolic 3D trophy, represents such an important moment in any young designer or start-up technology and graphics company's life. This kind of award, and the reception a project gets from its judges, could potentially make or break a career in the sector. For better or for worse, these are the graphic industry Oscars. And everybody wants to win an Oscar...
