Sagarmatha National Park and Trekking in Everest Region

Sagarmatha (native name for Mount Everest) national park is located in the north-eastern Himalaya region of Nepal. Sagarmatha National park, the highest national park in the world, is established in 1976 covers 1148 sq km and has been listed in World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1979. According to UNESCO, "The Sagarmatha National Park is exceptional area with dramatic mountains, glaciers, ice-falls and deep valleys, dominated by Mount Everest, the highest peak in the world (8848m). Several rare species, such as the snow leopard and the lesser panda, are found in the park. The presence of the Sherpas (known as mountaineering people) and other many ethnic groups, with their unique cultures, adds further interest to this site."

Climate: During the autumn months of October and November, the weather is pleasant but much colder at night. During winter months from December through February, the weather is very cold. During the spring time, days are warm. From June to August, it is hard to travel because of monsoon rains. Autumn (October-November) and Spring (March-May) are the best time to visit the park for Adventure Trekking, photography, research.

Flora & Fauna: The park represents eight ecosystems in the High Himalaya ranging from the juniper forests in the valleys to the alpine areas with glaciers, snow and rock. The forests consist of Blue pine, birch, fir and rhododendron etc. of the 160 vascular plants that have been recorded here, 21 are endemic species. The park is home to the Red panda, snow leopard, musk deer, Himalayan tahr, marten, Himalayan mouse hare (pika) and over 208 species of birds including the Impeyan Pheasant (National bird of Nepal – Danfe), snow cock, blood pheasant, red billed cough, lammergeyer etc.
