Drug abuse is a reality that is with time becoming a common place thing. More and more individuals are today experimenting with different drugs with some starting at very tender ages. Some are forced into the abuse of drugs out of curiosity, others out of peer pressure and yet others out of desperation and lack of better things to do. Either way, an increasing number of individuals some very young are finding themselves very deep in the bounds of drugs. And this begs the question of what can be done to stop this?

First things first, drug abuse is a process which can start as an innocent experiment and which with time can graduate into a very severe addiction. Being a process means it takes time before one can get the addict to the level that he cannot help it. As such, the best method to stop drug abuse will require time to take effect and the first step should be to undergo therapy.

The family is one of the most important elements of any society. A person suffering from addiction need to feel loved and safe with people around him/her. Family therapy therefore involves the use of all family members to help a person addicted to drugs to stop the practice. Here the family is tasked with two major responsibilities. One, to reorganize its structure to accommodate change needed to counteract a user’s drug dependency. Secondly, to come up with a plan to harness the family’s strengths and any necessary resources for the implementations methods to stop drug abuse

  • For any method to stop drug abuse to be effective, the individual involved should be actively involved. As such, unless the person suffering from drug addiction is willing to stop abusing the drugs any efforts will be in futility. Personal drug therapy monitoring therefore involves the patient taking measures on his own to counter drug abuse. Here the patient is taken through drug therapy programs to help understand how to control drug abuse and what to do to necessitate stopping.
  • To cure drug addiction, members are exposed to various activities allowing them to openly express themselves in various ways. This way, the patients create of a relationship with the peers. The peers in turn kind of form a trusted group who together work and help each other to overcome their drug addictions.

In as much as there are several drug monitoring programs, the best will be determined by a patient.
