A lot of people dream of owning their dream home – a place where they could relax and spend time with their family. When you picture yours do you, like many others, think of a professionally-designed place? Many do so but not everyone gets to have this dream turn into a reality.

But did you know that there are specific ways that you can turn your dream home into a real habitat? Where money is an issue, all you have to do is to follow a few principles in interior design while being on a limited budget.

Differentiate Your Needs, Wants, Expensive and Budget Items

Primarily, you must be able to recognize what products are affordable or are within your budget. Not all of your desired items are within your budget but with a flourishing interior design market, it is so easy to find a less pricey alternative.

You can begin your search online where there are hordes of options when it comes to materials that you can use in designing your dream home. You may also scour discount stores which carry similar items as those in expensive stores but at a much lower price.

Pricey stores can also hold occasional sales so if you know the schedule for these, then go ahead and take advantage of them.

Be sure to identify what is really needed to make your home look fancy. Do not go for wants. Have the patience and discipline to buy only the things that you really need.

Flea markets, second hand sales and yard sales are also spectacular sources of discount interior design pieces.

New Paint, New Look

Many interior designers understand the importance of painting walls and ceilings. Your choice of color can affect the overall mood of every room in your home that is why you need to make a good choice from the onset.

The toughest decision that you can make is to have the space painted and with what color. Choosing a high pigment paint such as crisp white shows sophistication in taste. Such neutral walls allow the rotation of accent colors during special seasons.

One other option that you can have is to add lux finish by painting your doors black. This automatically gives your home a more expensive look.

Stand Out With Crown Molding

Never hold back when it comes to the installation of crown moldings. Any space that lacks molding will only look average. With a limited budget, use a wide trim molding so that you can achieve more impact. Remember, the wider the crown molding’s trim, the more expensive your room will look.

Moderately Priced Window Treatments

The choices for window treatments are expansive. You also have many pricing options so if you want to spend but a little money, do not buy your window treatments right off the rack. Instead, find a local specialty fabric store that can provide the same selection at a much lower price.

Pillows and More Pillows

You can never have too many throw pillows; these are fabulous accessories that you can use on your loveseat, sofa or any over-sized chair. A collection of pillows bought from small stores is screaming dirt-cheap. To achieve a luxurious look, have no less than 22-inches of throw pillows. Pillows are not that expensive anyway so make time to invest in some that you can use to beautify your home.

Lighting – A Standard Accessory

Lighting is a must in any home as it adds personality, style and character. Throw away ugly chandeliers or ceiling fans and have them replaced with a bargain lighting fixture that can be found in flea markets or secondhand stores. There are now many bargain chandeliers that can make your home stand out without making you spend thousands.

With these tips, you should be able to redress your dream home quite soon.
