Amazon is ever improving on their Echo devices with exclusive features and utilities, and the latest update to the features of Alexa will actually help you in protecting your house in unforeseen circumstances.

A new feature, named Alexa Guard, is out for Echo users which would enable their Echo devices to act as a watch guard as soon as they leave the house.

The Alexa Guard feature can be accessed through the Alexa App on both Android and iOS, which allows its user to leave their house without any fear of fire or security hazards. Alexa Guard feature utilizes the far-field microphones inside the Echo device to obtain the minute sounds like smoke alarms sound or breaking of glass while no one is present at home.

As soon as Alexa detects any unrequired sound like Smoke alarm or breaking of glass windows, a notification message is sent to the registered mobile device to let know the user of the current happenings inside their house. Users can hear to a short 10 second clip or pair remotely to their Echo devices to undermine what exactly is going on in their homes to make sure that their residence is safe.

The Alexa Guard feature is easy to activate, as users can simply give a voice command to their Eco device saying "Alexa I’m leaving" while going out of their house which would instantly activate the Alexa Guard feature on your Echo device.

Amazon Echo users can easily enable the Alexa Guard feature on their devices by going through the steps given below and ensure complete safety of their homes when they are not around.

  • Launch the Alexa App on your smartphone.
  • Head to "Settings" option.
  • Now scroll down to "Guard" option and choose it to enable Alexa Guard feature on your Echo device.

Alexa can even integrate itself with various other devices to ensure better safety to your home. For instance, if a use have ADT security, then you can pair your Alexa device with the ADT system to have a better security channel for your house as Alexa can immediately communicate with ADT of any uncertain miss hap and other devices paired like security camera and smoke detector could assist the user to resolve any security related issue.

Alexa can even play some tricks straight out of Home Alone movie as Alexa Echo devices can also pair with other smart utilities in your home to fool any suspected intruders. For example, Alexa can pair to the smart lights in your house to switch it on and off or play random sounds of different people to create an illusion to any intruder that someone is already inside the house.

It is essential to know that Alexa Guard feature could be deactivated from the same account, which was used to enable this feature. So if any other Echo account user says "I’m Home" to Alexa, it would not affect the Echo device as the user will have to first switch their accounts to the one which activated this feature and then the user will be required to manually disable the feature by using the mobile app.
