How Indian Fashion influences World Fashion

The Indian traditional women's wear is a common fashion statement for women all over the world. The sari formerly a reserve for a mature Indian woman is worn to occasions and by women in the West, Africa and lots of other places. This portrays the effect of Indian fashion on the world. Apart from the actual garment, designs have replicated the embroidery found exclusively in Indian fashion. Sequins, beads and other ornamental items have been adopted into western fashion signifying its influence.

The Indian fashhion designers are also taking up their place in the world of fashion. India is now one of the top countries in the fashion list. This is in addition to the great demand for Indian fabric and textiles in International markets. There is a great diversity in the way Indians dress and this has created a lot of room for imagination by the designers. There is a mix of the dressing styles that has led to Fusion. The tradional wear of sarees. Kurtis, salwar kameez, chuidars have been blended to semi formla wear to be worn over jeans, trouses and capris. The sarees are worn with cotton blouse, lycra blouses, low necks, hlater necks and puffed sleeves.

They have been designs that have been inspired from traditional Indian garments like the kurti and churidar to make modern jackets and skirts. Some of this by haute couture designers like Armani. Dior also has borrowed heavily on silhouettes and prints as well as glitter. Others like Hermes have used the Indian garments in their real form such as saris, turbans and Nehru Jackets as well as modified kurta-churidars. Alexander Mc Queen used Indian jewelry, the morijari shoes and silk bordered clothing to enhance his designs. John Galliano used color, jewelry and Indian Gods as themes in his garments. He fused the sari fabric to make an exquisite design. Lastly Louis Vuitton made special Diwali collections from sari fabrics to make dresses.

The Indian fashion has not only been influencing clothing but shoes, handbags and jewelry. It has blended effortlessly with current fashion trends. There is a lot of Indian influence in trendy wear with garments even being given the traditional Indian names like the kurtas and kurtis. It is embraced by world renowned fashion designers and used as a basis of their inspiration. It is can be found in cat walks in most fashion capitals.

Fashion has truly transcended culture and time, when Indian fashion is adopted to modern daily wear. The fact that India is playing a role in propagating its own fashions and merging them with world fashion symbolizes an acceptance of the new trends. As the young adopt the new fashions not worn by their grandparents, the west is adoringly wearing their castaways to promote this almost revered traditional clothing to make it a respectable fashion. Indian fashion is celebrated and take its place in the world as an accessory or fashion statement. It truly deserves the attention it is drawing and will keep drawing for decades.
