The Right Personality Type for a Black Engagement Ring

In the current bridal and engagement jewellery scene, a black engagement ring is still very much an outside runner. With black typically associated with sad or negative things, it is understandable that most recently engaged couples do not want to have a jewel from that spectrum symbolising their relationship.

And yet, as with almost anything else in the world, black jewellery does have its demographic niche. In a society where individuality and displays of personality are encouraged, a black engagement ring has found a cult of admiration among certain brides and grooms who prefer substance and personality over style and dazzle.

The Groom

A groom who favours receiving and wearing a black engagement ring is likely to be a romantic, committed person, with a strong sense of individuality and who prefers uniqueness to tradition or convention. Male fans of black jewellery are also thought to have a confident and winning personality, making a well-rounded and desirable partner for any bride.

The Bride

Brides who like this type of colour, on the other hand, are often said to be mysteriously sensuous, with an alluringly dark undercurrent that perfectly matches the colour of the ring on their finger. Women who like black jewellery are thought to be seductive and captivating, as well as extremely sophisticated, complementing the personality of their groom perfectly.

Other Personality Types

Of course, while the personalities described above are the most typical buyers of black jewellery, they are far from the only ones. As noted above, Western society and its encouragement of individuality has given rise to a number of sub-cultures, some of which fly the flag of black clothing and jewellery proudly and unwaveringly.

As such, someone who identifies with what is normally called ‘goth’ culture (as well as the metal and punk sub-cultures) will no doubt be attracted to a black engagement ring. As the ‘banner colour’ for this particular group, increasingly spread across the Western world, black often appears on the fingers of these men and women, whether in the form of an engagement ring or simply of a decorative bauble with no underlying meaning. In fact, an argument could be made that ‘goths’ are the main clientele for black jewellery, although not to the same degree as a few decades ago.

In short, while far from the most popular colour for engagement jewellery, black does have its niche demographic within the market.
