When foreign countries plan to manufacture or look for ways and techniques to source from China, they might be encountered with few challenges. Communication problems, language barriers, handling of payments, cultural differences, trademark and patent issues, product quality issues, general trade flow problems, shipping or logistics are some of the obstacles. Finding reliable, capable and trustworthy suppliers in China or a manufacturer who can without fail provide quality standard goods at affordable prices is difficult to find. For successful procurement in China establishing and maintaining optimum business relationship requires enormous patience, efforts and time.

There are some features which needs to be kept in mind while selecting sourcing agents in China. It is very important for you to be sure about the specifications and requirements. Both the requirements and specifications have to be concise, clear, and agreed by you and the supplier. It is important to choose the importer who has already exported goods to your country. The supplier in China has to know the quality, language, logistics requirements and custom regulations. You can also get some references about the suppliers in China from the customers who may have used their services. You can clarify with the referrals about the customer service, reliability factors of the sourcing agent.

When small businesses look to import from China, they are faced with many challenges. One of the biggest challenges is communication. There are several barriers to communication that can stop from deals going through. There are times where the Chinese counterpart has said something positive and has been misunderstood as negative. Also there is a huge communication gap between the two parties that can have a negative impact on the contract. There are many instances were contracts have been signed on mutual agreements, but later they have been cancelled due to poor communication.

If you are planning for long term association with the China suppliers or the China manufacturers, you can hire a full time interpreter. This person can liaise between you and the China supplier. Thus, if there are any communication barriers, then they will be overcome with such arrangements. You may also want to hire multi-linguistic personnel in your company who can also communicate with the Chinese counterparts. For example, if you are a managing director of a company, you can hire a secretary who knows Mandarin.

Alternatively, you can offer language training to some of your important staff members. If you have an operations manager, you can provide elearning or online training for such people. Once they have basic language training, these strategic people can directly communicate with the China suppliers. On the other side, even China suppliers have understood the need for multi-linguistic employees. They too have started training programmes for many employees so that they can communicate well with the outside world. As trade is increasing, the demand for China goods is also increasing. If you are planning for imports from china, you will have to improve your communication and make sure that you have the right kind of people onboard.
