Plate Heat Exchanger is a type of heat exchanger comprising of corrugated plates assembled into a structure. In one side of the alternating chamber, the hot fluid flows while the cold fluid flows in other alternating chamber in counter-current flow direction. The fluids are directed into their respective chambers either with the help of suitable gasket or welding depending upon the type of heat exchanger. Plate Heat Exchanger is most commonly used for liquid-to-liquid transfer, for example, dairy industry for pasteurization process.

Designing Of The Plate Heat Exchangers

Each of the Plate Heat Exchanger is designed as a pack of corrugated metal plate having aperture for the passage of two fluids between which the heat transfer is going to take place. All the plates are assembled as a fixed structure where the movable pressure plates are tightened through bolts. The plates are fitted with the help of gasket sealing the channel between the plates, thus directing the fluids through the alternate channels.

The number of the plates to be used is determined by the flow rate, pressure drop, physical properties of the fluids and temperature. The corrugated plates of the heat exchanger promote the fluid turbulence, besides supporting the plates against any kind of differential pressure. An upper carrying bar suspends the plate and the pressure plate by the lower guiding bar. Both the upper

Carrying bar and the lower guiding bar are fixed to a support system.

Uses Of Plate Heat Exchanger

  • Boilers- The most common usage of Plate Heat Exchanger is in the residential or industrial boilers.
  • Heating pumps- It is used in the heating pumps to provide hot water. However, it can also be used for the space heating and transfer heat through the domestic networks.
  • Chillers- It is used in chillers for offering cool temperature in the commercial spaces, buildings, and homes. However, it can also be used in condensers to remove heat from the chillers.
  • Refrigeration Systems- It is used in freezers, container chillers and other refrigeration systems to provide ample temperature to the sensitive food products like vegetables, fruits, poultry, etc. Moreover, it can be used for low cooling in deep freezers and medium cooling in display cases.
  • Industrial cooling– It is used for oil cooling in industrial applications ranging from hydraulic, transmission and engine cooling.

You must choose a Plate Heat Exchangers Manufacturer that can provide you a reliable and high performance Plate Heat Exchanger. With its growing applications, there are numerous varieties of plate heat exchanger, which are available. Depending upon their requirements, the customers can avail them in different specifications.
