The emerging market for the injection moulding machines really made its manufacturers more tech savvy. The advanced injection moulders helps them to meet the customer demands in terms of quantity and custom moulding. The new forms brought more prospects to reduce costs and get better appearance of manufactured products. The use of various thermoplastic materials increased due to the market demands of manufacturing plastic components for a number of industries.

Thermoplastic Materials Used for Injection Moulding:

All the plastic materials used in the process have their own features to offer best performance. The manufacturers have to choose the right one as per their necessities. Most of them provide different amount of stiffness and durability.

Polypropylene (PP) – This material is preferred when the products need an attractive shape. The flexibility, lightness, and permanence are the features of this material. The products made from this stuff are compatible for recycling purpose.

The applications of this material includes in manufacturing crates and bins, washing machine drums, plumbing equipments, automotive parts, etc. Mostly the packaging industry uses its good chemical resistance power. Through injection moulding is a prime essential.

Polyethylene (PE) – All polyethylene variants e.g. HDPE, LDPE and LLDPE materials have diverse feature sets. Injection mould manufacturer provides the manufacturers to choose from all the variants for more cost efficiency.

Its high density (HDPE) form has better stiffness, heat distortion temperature and chemical resistance features. Still the lower impact strength makes it somehow downbeat. Refrigerator containers, crates, food storage boxes, dustbins, fuel tanks and some other household materials made through it.

With enhanced insulation properties and impact resistance, chemical resistance like features the low density polyethylene (LDPE) and linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE) best for packaging and toys industries.

Polystyrene – The General Purpose Polystyrene (GPPS) is an inexpensive hard, rigid substance with high gloss and transparency level. In terms colouring, products can be made of a wide range colours due to its crystal clear quality. Normally toys, containers, disposable tumblers, etc are the completed products. Using a small amount of rubber polymerizing, the higher impact strength to Polystyrene (HIPS) attained with loss of clarity and surface gloss. HIPS is used through manufacturing toilet seats, Television cabinets, refrigerator linings, etc.

Acrylic – The Polymethyl Methacrylate or Acrylic (PMMA) is a hard, rigid material. Its hardness is somehow equivalent to aluminium. It is UV resistant. So, this martial is used for manufacturing lenses, lighting covers, and control panels. Lenses on rear lights of cars are made from it. Injection mould manufacturer noticed an increasing demand for this material from last few years.

ABS - Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene has high impact strength with scratch resistance and hardness. Some of the variants of this material come with high gloss. Due to its good dimensional stability and mechanical strength, the diverse applications are more viable. In production of mirror housings, wheel covers, instrument panels, and radiator grilles automobile industry is the prime importer of this material. The consumer electronic items like vacuum cleaners, hair dryers, laundry irons, coffee makers and other kitchen appliances made from it. It is a popular term in injection moulding industry.

Besides these five types of thermoplastic materials Nylon (Polyamide), Acetal, Polycarbonate (PC), Acrylate Styrene Acrylonitrile (ASA), Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC), Polyesters, etc are also in high demand these days.
