3 Classic Sights in Beautiful Salzburg

The Austrian capital is filled with classic and much-loved sights and attractions, as you will see on your transfers from Salzburg Airport to your hotel. We’ve chosen three particular favourites here to share with you. Which ones will you make time to see?

Hellbrunn Palace

There are many stunning places to visit in this lovely city, but Hellbrunn Palace is one of those locations you will crane your head to see as you pass on your transfers from Salzburg Airport. The building is a truly stunning Baroque-style architectural masterpiece that is some 400 years of age. It is wearing well and is finished in exquisite detail. There is also a charming water park on site, which is popular with the many tourists. Be prepared to get wet if you take a tour of the water park though – it is filled with hidden sprays and fountains!

Hohensalzburg Castle

This is probably one of the most eye-catching sights in the whole city. Many transfers from Salzburg Airport will give you views of the castle, since it sits on top of a hill called Festungsberg. It is beautiful to look at and very light in colour. Its name translates, appropriately, as 'High Salzburg Fortress'. It is medieval in nature, with construction having started way back in 1077. Of course, as you might expect, the castle has changed somewhat over the centuries. Its original form was very simple and smaller than the castle that sits here today, because as different Archbishops came to power they ordered changes and improvements to be made. Over 900 years later the results are clear.

Mirabell Palace

This palace is a cultural monument that comes within the listing of the Old Town of Salzburg as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is a grand palace with a 400-year history, much like the Hellbrunn Palace mentioned above. Be sure to visit the gardens as well as the palace itself, as they are beautifully laid out and very detailed - just as the palace is. You may find the horse fountain somewhat familiar if you've ever watched The Sound of Music, some of which was shot in the city. Transfers from Salzburg Airport certainly provide some fascinating views as you head from the airport to wherever you're staying in the city. There are some classic structures from various periods in history dotted around, but these three are perhaps the best-known. If you are short of time and have to pick just one, perhaps the Hohensalzburg Castle is the best of the lot, but ideally you should see all three.
