Aluminium is a popular metal option for various industrial purposes. It is used in various applications in world like, automobile, construction, transportation and electricity transmission. The popularity of Aluminium is mainly due to following qualities:-

  • Light weight- Aluminium is very light in weight. Its weight is as light as 2.7 g/cm3, which is about one third of the weight of steel. This is the reason, Aluminium is used in vehicles to cut down unnecessary weight and increase loading capacity. Its strength can be modified for specific applications by changing its alloy composition.
  • Resistance against corrosion- Aluminium produces a natural protective layer of oxide which makes it highly corrosion proof. Various surface treatments like painting, Anodising or lacquering can enhance this quality even more. It is typically advantageous in applications which require protection and conservation.
  • Thermal and electric conductivity- Aluminium is an excellent conductor of electricity and heat. Its light weight and great conductivity has made it a top priority for electricity transmission lines.
  • Reflectivity- It is a good conductor of natural light and hence is extensively used in reflectors such as light fittings and rescue blankets.
  • Ductility- It is a ductile metal and has low melting point and density. It can be moulded into any shape or design.
  • Impermeable- Aluminium metal is impermeable and odourless. It does not let even the slightest aroma or taste substances out. It is ideal packaging material for food products and pharmaceuticals.
  • Recyclable- It is completely recyclable without any downgrading of its qualities. The re-melting procedure of aluminium requires only 5% of the total energy required at the time of production.

Aluminium sheets and coils are a vital part of most industries. They are available in variety of types hence, right calculations should be made while selecting an aluminium sheet or coil. Industries purchase them on the basis of different factors like required specifications, length series, thickness, width, inner diameter, outer diameter, form, etc.

Different Aluminium sheet grades are used for specific purposes. The most commonly used grades are 1xxx, 3xxx and 8xxx series. Most manufacturers manufacture only these grades because of their many advantages over others. However, other grades are also produced by manufacturers.

Aluminium is a light weight and ductile metal that is used in various industries because of its excellent heat and electrical conductivity. Resistance towards corrosion is the key advantage of using aluminium.
