Since Compumotor decided to use the extranet to operate its business, the company decided to delay deployment of the system until it had acceptable response time and accurate data. To improve performance, Compumotor upgraded its Hewlett-Packard server, and moved part of its Oracle database to a Sun Microsystems UltraSparc server to share the load. Parer made all this additional effort because he was reluctant to make guesses in light of the central importance of the extranet to running Compumotor's business.
