Three children from the Fiat Chrysler Automobiles group – Jeep, Mopar and the FCA Style Center – banded to create the 2015 Jeep Renegade Hard Steel concept car. The "cute ute," set to debut at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show, previews future Mopar customizations for the Jeep lineup.

The Renegade Hard Steel concept car builds on the popularity of the all-new Jeep Renegade Trailhawk. Like the regular model, the Hard Steel show car is built from 70 percent high-strength steel atop the Fiat Small-Wide 4x4 architecture. Properly equipped, the Jeep Renegade Hard Steel can tow up to 2,000 pounds.

Word from the Geneva Motor Show is that Jeep has retained the stock powertrain options. Internationally, the Renegade is available in no less than 16 powertrain combinations, including six engines and four transmissions. In the United States, the Renegade is available with a 1.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine or a 2.4-liter, 180-horsepower "Tigershark" four-cylinder engine.

The Jeep Renegade Hard Steel concept car adds to the Trailhawk's off-road credentials with a raised suspension, side rubbing strips, and BF Goodrich All-Terrain tires mounted on 16-inch alloy rims. Nestled underneath the front bumper, protecting the mechanical innards of the SUV, is a steel underbody panel engraved with the Trailhawk logo.

Inspired by marine and aviation industries, FCA designers reworked the Jeep's gun-metal gray body to resemble brushed steel. Accenting the gray bodywork are matte black components, such as fenders and hood vents. The "Brushed Steel" theme permeates the interior, extending to the audio speakers, air vents, glovebox, etc.

Jeep shines the limelight on the Renegade Hard Steel's Frau Century leather upholstery. Dyed the rich, warm color of lead and treated to achieve a distressed finish, the upholstery breaks new ground in the automotive industry. Like Lilliputian moonlight rivers, light gray stitching runs along the leather of the seats and trim, matching the brushed steel of the interior trimwork.

Lo and behold, the Jeep Renegade Hard Steel concept car has a spouse! Connected by a chain-link tie that binds is a trailer that mimics the appearance of the Renegade's rear rend: the same muscular wheel arches, the same BF Goodrich tires, even a copy-cat gas tank opening. The custom trailer boasts a full-size touchscreen, mounted in the rear, with all the conveniences of the 21st century. It shows all the features of the 5-inch and 6.5-inch Uconnect LIVE system, which includes TunelN, Facebook and Reuters. Jeep collaborated with Deezer to generate a Hard Steel-specific playlist of 25 tracks. Planted in the trailer walls is a bank of stereo speakers, which transform the spouse of the SUV into a mobile entertainment hub.

The Jeep Renegade Hard Steel concept car shows that Mopar is no longer muscle-car only. Trail-hardened drivers will love the BF Goodrich tires; mobile Millennials will enjoy the WiFi-connected trailer — and anyone can enjoy the drive!
