Nanotubes are nothing much small nano particles which are elongated into a tube to form the Nanotubes. This was discovered in 1991 by Japanese scientist Simio Ilijima. He was studying the material which was deposited on the cathode ray. This was checked after an Arc evaporation synthesis of Fullerenes.

There are different carbon nanotubes and most of them consist of graphene cylinders. Most of the times these are closed with cap containing pentagonal rings. There is different kind like single layered Nano Tubes and Multi layered Nano tube. Carbon Nano tubes are rolled in graphite sheets. There is a graphite sheet which is composed of Carbon atoms arranged in patters like mesh wire.

You can find several ways in which the single walled has come up. The focus now is on single walled nano tubes than other forms of tubes. The start of this was from the carbon nano tubes. Before all of this came into the scene the most commonly used form was molecular electronics. The advent of carbon nanotubes has interested many people including chemists, material scientists and physicists. The way in which each of them interprets would be different however the base remains the same. The future however would be more on single structured Nano.

Why are we using single walled carbon nano tubes?

Theorists have proved that nanotubes can be conducting or insulating depending on their structure. They would sometime lead to applications in nano electronics. What would we get? We will get smaller and more efficient machines. The biggest reason for using this single walled Nano is because usage of wire in nano electronic is not possible. There would be breakage and thinning of the wires. There is different ways in which scientists are looking at using a carbon nano tubes that is single walled, to help make things better with the nano electronic device.

The only problem that we are looking at is to separate the metallic tubes and one which are semi conducting ones. There are many different synthesis procedures that produce nano tubes that look like spaghetti. These are however not useful as semi conductors as they contain different varieties of tubes laced together.

They can have metals different forms of semi conductors. There are many different strong chemical bonds. Apart from this you can see that carbon nanotubes are efficient in conducting because of their tiny size and long length. There are of course structures which are free from any defects.

There are different kinds of models which look at the usage of the nano modules made from carbon. This is a study of what one can calls as transmission electron micrograph images. There are many defects and kinks part of the nano walls. The progress to this is what you would see in the single walled carbon nanotubes.
