Drive from Alamosa's long straight highways to rolling and twisting ribbon-y canyon roads meandering through spectacular mountain passes. This is something that people of all age will enjoy. Before it's scorching hot, you may want to hike to the sand dunes, build sand castles, click some pictures and sledge down to the creek for a quick lunch and some rest.
  2. Tracking on Sangre De Cristo Range: Just east of the San Luis Valley located are the Sangre De Cristo Mountains. Needless to say that the mountain range will catch your fancy right at the moment when you drive through the ribbon-y passages. So, why not dedicate a day for tracking to the beautiful mountain range and explore the less traveled paths?
  3. Bike Riding to Creede: Well, if you're a two-wheeler enthusiast, you may very well be interested in riding a bike to Creede. The roads, however, get busier during tourist season. You may not enjoy this activity that much because the roads are not empty. The best time to indulge in it is during November when it's cold and there are no tourists.
  4. Exploring Alamosa: Located on Rio Grande, Alamosa is a beautiful town in the San Luis Valley. In fact, it makes a perfect base to explore the entire region. Home to numerous good and budget hotels and restaurants, it's a preferred stopover among travelers. It is recommended that you consider it as the base city for all your travels and expeditions to the surrounding region. However, if you're traveling during peak tourist season, then you must book your accommodation in advance.
