More and More Couples Are Opting to Wed at the Seaport's District Hall

Soon after getting engaged couples face a rash of big wedding decisions, chief among them the date, hopeful size of the event and, or course, the venue. That last one is big: All to often, couples who have pledged to spend their lives together just can't seem to agree on where to make the damn thing official. One is traditional, one more modern. One wants a ballroom, the other a barn. One has a giant extended family and dozens of "best friends," the other... not so much.

(I may or may not be speaking from some semblance of experience, here.)

As a result, resourceful hopefuls are increasingly turning to more dynamic, non-traditional spaces for the perfect, if not somewhat unexpected, wedding venue.

One local example: the Seaport's District Hall.

"My fiancé and I both agreed we did not want a traditional wedding, including a traditional wedding venue," Lisa Paz told me. She and her husband, Vinny, are getting hitched at District Hall this October. "Not that District Hall couldn’t be used for a more traditional wedding. We both love the up and coming Seaport District, and when we saw District Hall, it was the first venue that we both agreed on."

If you've ever strolled the open spaces of District Hall, or enjoyed a meal at adjoining bar and restaurant, Gather, nuptials might not be the first thing that come to mind. Rather, it's a place for impromptu meetings among cofounders or a pitch to potential investors. Which is exactly why it's a great spot for a wedding.

"I love the architecture of the building, as well as the décor," Paz continued. "District Hall has character, but also is a blank canvas that allows for creativity in decorations. I mean, most venues don’t let you draw on the walls. The food doesn’t hurt either."

Liza is from Braintree, Vinny is from Medford, where the couple lives now. The Seaport offers a central location for friends and families.

District Hall is "a really cool space for those looking for a unique, non-traditional venue," said Kim Ring of Ring Communications. "It's perfect for the growing innovative community in Boston and beyond."

The 12,000-square-foot, one-story building is seeing an influx in wedding interest as of late – a few have happened there already, with several more on the calendar. "There are a ton of leads coming in every day," said Ring. "People really embraced the building in a way that was never imagined."

District Wedding Hall. Who would've thought.
