Kalimpong, a small hill station of West Bengal, is a popular destination for a quiet and relaxing holiday. An escape from the city crowd, Kalimpong is the place which offers you an aesthetic view of the Himalayas. There are many tales related to the name of the place. One community claims that "Kalimpong" means ‘Assembly of the King’s Ministers’ in Tibetan, where as Lepcha believe it as ‘Ridge where we play’. Kalimpong is a very popular tourist destination of West Bengal. It is the pathway to many other tourist spots of North East. Kamlipong is situated at an altitude of 1250 metres and enjoys the best climate of the region. The vast meadows, the horticulture and the flower markets are a treat for nature-lovers. Home to the Nepalis, Lepchas and other ethnic groups, the town is rich in Tibetan and Buddhist cultures.

Kalimpong has many educational centres and many of them were established during British colonial rule. It also beholds Zang Dhok Palri Phodang Buddhist monastery. New Jalpaiguri is the nearest rail head from Kalimpong which is 77 km away. New Jalpaiguri is well-connected with trains from Howrah, Delhi and Mumbai. Gypsy, Tata Sumo, autorickshaw and private tourist buses are available outside the railway station. By road, Kalimpong is well-linked to other major cities. Darjeeling is just 50 km away and Gangtok is 75 km away from the town.

Despite some political issues and the claim of the division of Land by Gorkha, this stunning town of West Bengal has developed well. You will get some finest hotels to stay.
