If you are an avid wildlife enthusiast, Tiger tours are probably on your wish list of wildlife experiences. There are excellent companies in the travel market who take great pride in offering comprehensive Tigers tours, which are perfect for those people wanting to see this magnificent beast in the wild.

India For Tiger Tours

India is one of the few places in the world where you can see these spectacular creatures in the wild. Thankfully, because of Project Tiger, reserves have been established to protect the ever-dwindling habitat of this big cat. The northern part of India is perfect territory and the environmental diversity offers a variety of potential prey and ample opportunity to roam.

Where to go

Visit the incredible reserve of Bandhavgarh, in the northern state of Madhya Pradesh, and you cannot fail to be impressed by its incredible beauty. Home to a healthy population of Tigers today, this park was once the hunting ground of some very influential maharajas in the region. Combining undulating grasslands and wide open savannah, the park made spotting the hunting targets relatively easy.

Luckily, hunting is a thing of the past and now people flock to the park in the hope of encountering one of the many big cats that reside here. In the centre of the park, perched on a hill, is the ruin of an old fort, which makes a fantastic vantage point for surveying the park. It also offers some breathtaking photo opportunities later in the day when the sun is low in the sky and casting its crimson hue over the lake in the distance. The ruin itself is also fun to explore, although its historical significance remains much debated.

On Tiger tours in India, it is usual to spend a few days in one reserve before moving on to the next, should you choose. Getting to know a reserve is key to understanding more about the behaviour of the animals that reside within it. Game drives into the reserve take place twice a day, which means you get to experience it under very different conditions. Early in the morning and later in the day are when the reserve is at its most active and thus the animals are more easily sighted.

Every game drive is accompanied by an expert naturalist guide who is there to help you begin to understand the sounds of the Indian jungle and consequently discover the best places for sightings. Travelling in open topped jeeps, you are given the best chance to get some great photos or simply sit and enjoy the sighting of one of these incredible beasts. They are notoriously elusive and can be difficult to spot, but this only makes an eventual sighting even more exciting. Do not forget the Indian jungle is inhabited by all kinds of wonderful wildlife, so there is lots more to see on the game drives if the stars decide they are not in the mood for showing off.
